I just compared all of the HST variations in 9mm.

Looks like 124 +p is the fastest and has the most energy at around 394 ft/lbs.

    Thoughts and opinions?

is thatout of a khar barrel, PM,CW, K or other brand???
. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

No...I don't have a chrono or those resources. That is off of Federal's site where they say it was from a 4" barrel.

I don't know exactly about the chronographs, but from what I've seen the HST has amazing expansion in 9mm at least.

I'd check out this guy's youtube channel. http://www.youtube.com/user/tnoutdoors9

He has some pretty detailed tests on a lot of different loads, chronos and all. His test guns are typically Glocks with a 4" barrel, though.

For my company the 124+P is the least popular of the 9mm HST. Naturally the 147 is the most popular. Ranger the 147 rule by a huge margin. However in Gold Dot the 124+P sales the best.

I like it. I picked up a "few" boxes of the 124 +P after completing my test.

124 gr +P HST's & Gold Dots are 2 favorites for my G26, & now, my CM9. Great performing rounds.

I use both 124 and 147 in my pm9. I think you are fine with either.

Either 124 or 147 are good. The HST expands very reliably even with lower powered rounds. I chose the 147 as it tends to be a tad better penetrator. I chose the +P to get that last 100ft/sec velocity I can out of the short barrel. The thing is to make your decision and be comfortable with it and be done with the doubt. I have complete confidence in my selection and know I have done the best I can.

seems like when polls are taken the 124 +P gold dot prevails

Yeah it seems Gold Dot are better known and easier to find. They are also a fine round as, if I recall right, many agencies specify them. I'm just a bit of a contrarian by nature and make up my own mind. Wonder if that had anything to do with buying a Kahr instead of a Glock?

I lean towards HST in 9/40/45. Namely the heavy-for-caliber loads, i.e. 147/180/230 respectively. Federal cuts the skivves on the bullet (which form the "petals" of the expanded bullet) all the way down to the case mouth on it's heavy-for-caliber HST loads. This ironically leads to the best expansion for each caliber than the lighter and faster loads. Usually you expect the faster ones to expand MORE but that is not the case with HST.

Hey, best of all worlds: less recoil than the snappier lighter loads, more expansion, and more penetration due to the weight.
