A very good choice for your CW9, the exact round I carry in my CM9.

Speer GDHP may well be the most issued LE ammo today.
IMHO - you really can't go wrong with that choice.

That is probably true. Their Lawman brand practice ammo is also an excellent product for mimicing much more expensive carry ammo. Good stuff.

That's why I like the 230-gr GDSB's and the 180-gr GDSB's. I like those wide cavities. When I reloaded, I used the flying-ashtray type bullets for .45. I loaded them to about 950 fps... probably +P... just because it was so cheap just to use that kind of load.

Dang! I forgot the subject... I was going to say sell or keep the Silvertips for backup use and get some newer ammo for defensive use.

I think that ammo is going to get harder to get and more expensive, so extra is a good thing!

Problem was, of course, they tended to plug going through layers of heavy fabric, dry wall, etc. A good bullet for summer use...but come winter it was best to change to snow tires.

Yeah... when I lived in Maine, I had a whole set of snow/ice tires for my AWD Audi. They make a big difference in control and braking. I practiced a lot, too, purposefully "losing" control or starting slides on snow and ice... and regaining control.

I bought a whole set of tires... wheels and snow tires for my BMW while stationed in Germany. I couldn't have gotten out of my basement apartment driveway with snow, otherwise!

Back to bullets... I bought a bunch of 95-gr +P Buffalo Bore Flat Nosed .380 FMJ for trips up North and encountering... or countering heavy clothing.

Yeah, thats not correct. Ranger Bonded is a bonded round, the old Winchester Silvertip, and the new Winchester Silvertip (Super-X) is not. Ranger Bonded is engineered to defeat hrd and soft intermediate barriers, neither Silvertip is or will. Ranger Bonded is designed to have ideal penetration and expansion, neither Silvertip is.

A bullet that must reduce expansion to increase penetration does not meet FBI-BRU standards.

I was responding to the statement "...and they arent any good now...". That simply isn't accurate. The bullets used in the two rounds are more alike than different. The primary difference is in weight. Tests I've seen, in .40S&W, in fact show ST expanding less than Ranger in gel.

The Silvertip of old and are not reliable performers. I'd like to see your tests and results. Dr Roberts tested the 115fr Silvertip some time ago and found the penetration lacking, that the bullet occasionally fragged, and that when denim was encountered, acted like a FMJ.

He also tested Ranger Bonded with 124gr and 147gr and found the performance excellent.

I can supply test results of all rounds next time I'm on a computer.

Now having said all that, I'll admit I carry PDX1 in my HK, but I wouldn't hesitate for one second to carry ST ammo. In fact I guess I do in my Seecamp, if for no other reason other than I can get it in 50 round boxes.

                      It's good ammo.
Its ammo. If I couldnt find Ranger Talon, HST, Ranger Bonded, Federal Tactical Bonded, or Speer GDHP I would use Winchester USA [current Silvertip, or Super-X..same-same].

I think I'll drive by "Moe's Possum Lodge" to see if he still has that last box of Gold Dots I left yesterday.
