  • PMC Starfire Test

I've tested enough 380 and 9mm to pretty much know what will expand and what won't so I usually wouldn't let either of these loads see a gel block, but the ammo was donated with the expectation of seeing a results so I pushed ahead with the test.

Starfire 380 and 9mm tests run with my testing work horses the P380 and PM9.

Very nice. I won't be running either of those through a short barreled gun anytime soon. You think it would work better through a full size 9 or do you think it would have sub par performance compared to other 9mm?

I have rounds left over to test in longer barrels, but really it's just to see what the expanded bullet looks like. Between scarce availability and so many other 9mm standard pressure options available that I know work in both long and short barrels (ahem... HST, Critical Defense, Gold Dot) it's really just to satisfy my curiosity. Every so often it is nice to publish what the expansion fails look like. Not very exciting to read about, but it lets folks know you just can't run anything and expect good results. On the other hand, I wouldn't stand in front of either one.

Lol, I was kind of thinking that last part. It is cool seeing how poor some bullets perform compared to others, but i'm pretty sure that going through my chest vs a "good" round are going to equally ruin my day...as well as my shirt.

I've run the 9mm and .380 PMC FMJ bullets as practice ammo and it performs well in that capacity. For carry I go with Gold Dots for the 9mm and Golden saber for the .380. Both were chosen because of your testing. Great work.
