I spend some time watching youtube and get some interested thoughts based off of what I see. I don't expect that I am the first person to think of this, but is .380 ACP with moon clips compatible from a .38 special? The number is .002" off I think. The thought came to me while watching someone shoot .32 ACP out of a .327 Federal Magnum handgun. That handgun shoots the .32 S&W, .32 S&W Long, .32 H&R Mag, .327 Fed Mag, and I saw him shoot .32 ACP. It seems like being able to shoot a .380 ACP out of a .38 special or .357 mag would be beneficial in training novice/sensitive shooters. I know there are other options for this, however this has me kinda interested.

I was almost sympathetic until the last part. You want to indoc new users with the practice of using the wrong caliber/cartridge for the gun.? Don't think so. As to recoil sensitive practice...a 130 gr wadcutter over 2.7 gr of Bullseye should do it for 'ya.NRA Benefactor

It is an interesting premise, but I don't think it will work due to the 380 being a rim-less cartridge and the 38 being fully rimmed. Just tried a 380 Stellar Clip (what Taurus calls their moon clip) and the cartridges were spaced too wide to go into the Ruger LCR cylinders. Maybe a custom cut moon clip would work, but I wouldn't want to be the first one to try it.Owner of and sole contributor to the Pocket Guns and Gear blog. http://mousegunaddict.blogspot.com

Well like I said, just a thought?I would definitely not do it if it were the wrong caliber for the gun (that's why I asked if they were compatible). I was only curious though because I am more interested in getting a .327 magnum for the purpose of having all those cartridge options and still a pretty powerful round with less recoil. Thanks for the input. Ljutic I am glad you tried using the Taurus clips from your M380, thanks again.
