With the price/availablity of Ammo are you securing what you have?

Your home stored ammo is worth double what you paid for it (If Purchased Pre- 12/25.) What are doing to securing it?
Looked at safes Too expensive (for the size I would need) Then I say these wall/floor mounted Garage storage systems at Sear, Lowes and Home D.
I went with this one. As the size, adj shelve and barrel lock. seemed attractive for MY needs. Becaue of the weight I am NOT hanging this cabinet. I am cutting a ply wood base and elevating it onto cinder blocks, (Keep it off my floor in case of any water damage) and lag bolting it onto my wall. I have an L E D lighting set-up mounted inside the cabinet to see better and have "dated" my ammo.
I shoot less than 100 rounds at the range weekly to get thru this panic induced shortage.
What have YOU done to protect your Ammo investment?

Between the two of us we are shooting 100 rounds of factory ammo. a week plus reloads.
If the ammo. situation does not improve soon we plan on limiting that to 50 rounds of factory ammo. plus reloads.
Our reloading supplies recently improved as we were able to buy 1,000 small pistol and 1,000 large pistol primers while on a trip in Northern MI.
The outlying gun stores up north are not as picked over as the stores in metropolitan Detroit. They even have some AR's left.

I wish I had an ammo supply to need to protect. My timing was very bad, as I switched guns/calibers right in the middle of all this....sold my AR and .45 and bought 357 (not hard to get ammo for) and a 9mm (two now) - the 9mm is a bit tougher.

I figure soon enough this should all end...BUT with all the people buying guns, WANTING to take CCW classes, etc it will take a while. We're buying up all the ammo we can because there is no ammo available....because we're buying it all up because there isn't any because we buy it all up because..............

I wish I could get more ammo than my safe could hold. I have about 2000 rounds of various ammo. It fits easily in the bottom of the safe. I havnt been to the range since all this mess started. Holding on to what I got.

Something to consider... if someone gets into your garage, there's a good chance that he will find something to get into the cabinet with. Most of us keep quite a few tools in the garage and there are many that a crook could use to defeat the "safe" and/or get into the house! I have saws, prybars, bolt cutters, and power tools!. It might be beneficial to lock those up, too... or at least hide them somewhere else!

Oh! And minimize the time your garage door is open! Don't allow passersby to get a good idea of the the contents and layout! Curiosity at what you might have in large cabinets might attract thieves, too!

I store my ammo in my rottweiler's dog house. "Kitten" as I call him keeps a good eye on it.

I have quite a bit stored in a cool dry location. I have cut back on shooting since I have no clue when or if I will be able to restock.

I'm ashamed to admit I haven't pulled a trigger in any meaningful way since August.

I'm long, long over due and it's probably the reason I am the way I am.

it's legal to shoot here at the house but neighborhood is built up enough that if I did much they would power whine and then it wouldn't be legal for long.

The ammo situation, the hour drive to the range and empty piggy bank are all contributing factors. Shouldn't be this way.

I think I'll go light off a few out the back door, I know I'll feel much better.

If I lived anywhere like that, I would construct some kind of noise-reduction tunnel or the like to allow SOME firing without ALL of the noise. It could be lined with sound baffles and old carpet or whatever to help absorb sound.

I haven't done a thing to "protect" my ammo. The ready stuff is loaded and around the house. The other sits on the floor in various containers in the bedroom.

When I'm home, I'm not too worried about someone trying to gain access to it. When I'm not home I'm sure the four dogs will "protect" it enough if someone even comes down the drive to distract them from even coming up to the front or back door.

Oh I shoulda mentioned it's under my stair case in my basement. Even with the rip wire connected to a bouncin' betty...Nothing is 100% theft proof , just wanna slow 'em down a bit
