I think I'm getting the reputation as the guy that will test just about anything, which is fine with me since the ammo is free and my curiosity gets satisfied.

First test with the new testing rig and I think it worked out really well. The guy that donated the ammo uses these in his CW9 in case you were interested.

Thanks! That's impressive, especially the shock waves that continued to ripple through the gel! No wonder even the 380 put a sheep down quick with one shot in the Strasbourg Tests.

I started a thread a couple of years ago asking for posts from people with actual experience to share their thoughts about this ammo. Interesting. The projectiles in the wound will be a nasty situation to correct surgically. As a side light my neighbor is a trauma surgeon at a Level 1 Trauma unit and his 3 decades of expierence give almost no credibility to the "shock wake".

Also a sheep is not physiological anywhere near a human either. Just because one is effected in a particular manner is NO indication the other will react similiarily.

Definitely some nasty stuff looking at the video. But, unless you are shootin' a nekid intruder, I'll still pass. Drop 4 layers of denim on that gelatin and re-run the test. No idea what the results will be, never tested it myself, but guessing a WHOLE LOT less is gonna happen. It doesn't penetrate far enough into the bare gelatin even, for what you'd typically want at 15" minimum.

Definitely would NOT trust my life to it. Never know when your particular scenario will require you to shoot thru a barrier or a couple layers of clothing...the latter being almost guaranteed in a home invasion, only people on heroine or bath salts run around nekid.

Your best bet is to be aware of what's behind your target and carry a round more suitable for stopping a threat, not pissing it off.

Yep, and I hope I didn't sound too harsh on the round. I think under certain scenarios, a frangible round MIGHT be of some benefit. But they are all 'what if' scenarios after the bigger 'what if' has already occurred (what if I need to use my weapon followed by what if I miss). My only point was that given the spectrum of 'might could if', a normal round and being aware of what's behind your intended target is always a better route to go IMO.

There are a number of tests on YouTube on this frangible stuff. One that sticks out is tnoutdoors9 on GuardDog (I think I have the right guy).

Would I want to be on the receiving end, no way. Would I want to have use one, no way. Would I trust one, not sure but all information I have says nope.

There are 2 major issues (in my mind) at play w/ a SD round. Over penetration and under penetration. Over penetration can be dealt with by having a SD JHP round that is proven to work (i.e. not plugging itself with clothing) and acting like a FMJ round. Rounds like a PDX1, Critical Duty, all perform well in this regard. Many other good SD rounds that fit that bill obviously. Second, under penetration. Nothing you can do there. If you can't poke thru heavy clothing, door, furniture, car...you might be in trouble.

Maybe I've over-thought the issue. But the frangible stuff to me is a 'might work' to defend myself scenario in order to address the 'what if' I miss scenario. Those 'what ifs' are pretty bad when you think about them (what if my round goes thru a wall into a neighbors house/apartment, what if my kid is in the next room and I miss, what if I'm in a crowd). So everybody has to make their own decision in that regard.

One solution. Carry a one or two on the top and the rest of your mag has the normal SD round. Assuming your gun will feed both and feed the combination/transition effectively, repeatedly.

I have never heard alot of good about magsafe ammo, no doubt u shoot a light grain bullet it will have speed. IMO ur down in the 380 range. It's been around for awhile, so some people aere buying it, so I guess I should not knock what I have never shot either.

If it flots ones boat, then indeed carry it and look past naysayers like ol jocko, for todayt was not a good day, as I was booted off of an outdoor ange I have been a member of for over 5 years and never shot beyond 15 yards and today I was shootin at 5 yards and was told I was going to shoot up the railroad ties to much and had to now shoot at their 35 yards range, and with my PMJ9. It was a nasty verbal encounter, no doubt I lost, but I got my $100 bucks membership dues partially back by telling um what I thouught of that b.s.

Yea, that's just DUMB jocko, good for you for giving them what for. At 35 yards, I'm running the other direction unless somebody is shooting at me from that distance.

Not sure why any range that allowed handguns would say you are limited to 35 yards and out. What, do they think you are training for Top Shot? Actually, I don't think their handgun events are even that far, like 10 times closer than that, like 35 feet. Wait, that's 10 yards...so you were training for Junior Top Shot :-)

The multi lane indoor facility I shoot at will let you shoot from 18" to 35 yards. As long as the target is ahead of the shoot line which is 18" in front of the front edge of the shooting platform you are good to go.

chrish under penetration is a very bad thing. Over penetration not so much. I would rather a round over penetrate than under. The Glaser slug was designed for the FAM's decades ago. There is a reason that the current FAM's and the armed pilots do not use pre-fragmented projectiles. From a stand point of effectivemess the medical experts have proven them to be very poor fight stoppers.

I have doing this for over 4+ years at this range.I always go through the week when 95% are at work. Ihave never shoot at he range when anyoneelse was shlting out of respect for their shooting, as I would have been in front of anyone shooting for 35 yards on back to 100, so when ever I pulled into that area whivch membership inclusdes a key tothe locked gate also, if anyone was there I wouldjust turn around and go back home as it wa sonly 5 miles, no big deal. In over 4 years I havenever been threre thorught he day and any shooter was ever theri ecept an oldf old customerof mine who was now 91 years old and cold hardly see even but he loved to hear his 22 go bang and he would be sitting in a cvhair aboutr 15 feet away. I liked the ol an and knew he enjoyed doing that,so I never even got my guns out when he was there bnut would go up and we wouldchat bout the ol days, when he used to come into m shop about 4 times a week. Back then he was a good shooter and a pretty decent smitty even. Spo I more than respected the club (Izaak walton) and then they post this **** thisyear. About 3 years ago a stong wind came through that area and blew their shooting shed down, completely off the foundation. I sent them back then a $100 to restore or help rebuild. Never ask for any favors or nuttin. I joined back then to shoot unmoleseted and not to fish or hunt on the property. today just did not set well with me, and to top it off the club officver that approaced me, I recognized from back in my business days of havbing him in smallclaims court even. I would have neer renwed my dues had I know he was now a head officer either. No sure he reecognized me or wanted to acknowledge that he did, as I did introudce yself to both of them.

fokk um. I told them they are nbot hand gun shooters if they think they shoot from 30+ yards only and that I joined to keep myd efense skills up, not to shoot all over the fokking paper at 30+ yards.. I started to count to 10 then realized it was a loosing cause, so I multiplied it 5 X2 and got there faster and toldum both to go fokk themselves.

I'm nt rooud oif this event either, as I lost a good range but after today 30+ yards is not sumpin I am gonna pay a $100 bucks a year. they have their rules and it is there property and yes it is my money to spend where ever I want some place else.

u right tinmanb. I have been shootin at this private club range (Izaak walton) for over 4+ yers and always shot at 10 yards and under, most of the time 5 yards and alot just sitting on a chair relazing and having a nice 100 rounmd shoot. I never went to the range and ever shot when anyone else was shoolting as I respected them as being there first and I would havbe been way in ffront of them shooting at 35-100 yards, so I would just turn around and go back home as it was no big deal. I always went to the range during the day and neve ron weekends and I knew 95% of the people were working, so there fore no one was ever out there shootin. In allthsoe 4+ years I encountered one old ol gentlemen , who was a good customer of mine years back. He was 91 and he would be sitting in a chair about 10 feet from the target. He could not see well nor hear but he loved to hear his 22 go bang. I admired him alot and even bought him a brick of 22 when ammo was available. He dies last year year, but he was a good ol boy. They never gave him any sh!t back then.

My dues are a $100 a year and all I joined for wa sto shoot unmolested as I didn't fish their waters nor hunt on their land. Now this year thye post this fokking rules sign on the range and today was m first time there this year, and I never got through 2 mags and two club pofficers were there to tell me that I cant shoot at 5 yards and I must get back tothe shelter to shoot which is 30= yards. . I said b.s. and pistol shooters dont shoot from this range, andf I showed um my PMJ9 and told them do u think I couldhit aythibng at 30+ yards with a defense gun. Made no difference. I refresed their memory that about 3 years ago their shooting shed was destroyed one evenig by a bad storm and I send the club $100 to put towasrds restoring the shed or what ever and I never ask for nuttin other than tobe left alone. Again, didn't matter. I also told them who I was so they would know me and then I realized that the one officer was a fokking dead beat person that I had in small clauims court when Ihadf my business. He didn't tell me who hge was but I recognized him. Had I know he wasw a new officer I wouldnot have paid my dues tothe orgahization either.Anyway I lost what was a nic eplace to shoot but at 30+ yards it is as worthless ass t!tts on a boar for me to shoot there. They not only lost a member who used about 10% of their fgacilities but also a person who has helped finance sme of their \issues when never asked. They have their rules, I understand that, and I also have my money and my rules as to whom giets any of it.

I never called you stupid,you just dont like the fact you are wrong about this stuff.
I looked at the test and I am still not impressed by the shallow penetration and of course the price.
But I am sure you are...
