This might have worked under "tactics" as well. I wonder how many of you guys ever mix ammo. I used to alternate with HP and FMJ, actually loaded every other one in my mags. in the winter time. I live in Florida, but I used to carry a 380 and always worried about penetration if a few layers of clothing were involved. Now, I'm wondering about mixing certain defensive rounds, say like bonded and normal HP.

I think that most premium .380 hollow points will work any time. It seems like denim/get tests generally show that the hollow points of most brands load up and then the plugged hollow points penetrate MUCH further as FMJ does.

Everybody has his own opinions and will argue for his points of view, but I just choose a premium bullet, well-designed and much tested by LE agencies and private entities as well... the Speer Got Dots... bonded bullets... and I use the Short-Barrel version where it's available, as in .45, .40, and 9mm.

For the .380 I still use the God Dots, but +P versions by Buffalo Bore or Underwood... 90-grain Speer Gold Dot Hollow Points, bonded and proven.

For self defense I won't go smaller than .38/9mm.
And never run FMJs.

I prefer LE ammo;
Federal HST,
Winchester Ranger T-Series,
Speer GDHP.

I'm happy with any of those three.
But don't mix them in the same mag.
I generally like to run the one that groups the best.

I do like Speer Short Barrel in my Kahr MK40 Elite, S&W 342 it 38 Special &
S&W 629-2 44 magnum Mountain Gun.

They're all pretty much the same diameter ~ .356". That's why I use +P 9mm and +P 9mm Kurz... more velocity out of these short barrels!

I use 125 gr 357 Sig for velocity out of my 3.26" P2000SK (~1300 fps).
It's funny that 357 Sig is really .355 caliber.
But that just doesn't sing does it?
Much like 44 Mag isn't really .44 caliber - LOL!
