  • Underwood 380 +P 80 Grain TAC-XP

I had a good feeling about these when I heard about them. By far the best performing Barnes loaded round on the market.

. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

Buffalo Barnes and Corbon Tests are here. http://mousegunaddict.blogspot.com/2...-380-auto.html

Same tee-shirt used for all three tests. Didn't have enough of the Buffalo Barnes to do a denim test.

Do you feel the Underwood 380 +P out performs the Buffalo-Barnes 380 +P? I'm very interested in one of these two brands. Although, I recently read post on here saying that you want less velocity for less expansion and deeper penetration. Not sure who to believe.

Most quality defense bullets when driven at higher velocities do expand to large diameters and penetrate a little less. Not a barnes bullet thing. speed gold dots and xtp also do it that I am use to shooting those loads. Even lead gas checked swc we use for hunting with pistol when driven hard expand more.

I don't see a problem with it as some of these bullets when shot from short barreled handguns don't offer enough velocity to expend as the bullet was originaly design to and that is a problem. Like the photos of the dpx barnes bullets above. There a great bullet design but short barrels don't always let a great design bullet work as well as it could. Run the same load in a longer of maybe only an inch and they may work very well or bump the energy level a little bit.

I guess that I'm just old school. I like good penetration. I think that a bullet that doesn't expand and penetrates 18" does just as much damage to flesh as a bullet the expands and only penetrates 10". I also think that ball ammo does a better job at penetrating heavy clothing and bone. I think that hollow points have their place, but not in the .380 caliber. I do like hollow points in 9MM and 45 ACP.
