  • Ammo Question

I recently received some various ammo from a company called Freedom Munitions. http://www.freedommunitions.com/#&panel1-4

I ordered some reloads etc. My question is I ordered some 'new' 9mm Hornady 124 gr XTP JHP's and when I received them they were in a Freedom Munitions box and labeled Hornady. What did I actually get? I'm guessing I've received a Hornady 124 gr XTP bullet which has been loaded by them?

They shot well in my G26 but are these SD trustworthy?
Thanks in advance for your comments.

When dealing with reloads it is hard to say. Perhaps if you posted a pic, someone here could help sort it out, but it sounds like you recognized the bullet end as being the Hornady XTP. What was the brass labeled?

It looks like you got new Hornady 124 gr XTP that Freedom bought in large bulk packs and then they repackaged it in their box. You have factory new XTP ammo in Freedom's box.

Not necessarily. What he might have is brand new ammunition made by Freedom Munitions that uses the Hornady projectiles. That would be my guess. Freedom Munitions also makes reloaded ammunition.

That would be my thought too.

The only difference I am aware of at Freedom Munitions between new and re-manufactured is that the re-manufactured uses previously fired shells. What you probably got was Hornady XTP bullets with new shells manufactured by Freedom. "This is ammunition loaded with Hornady XTP Bullets by Freedom Munitions"

The site explains that NEW is all-new components and the Remanufactured uses fired brass:

"Freedom Munitions "Like-New" manufacturing process provides like-new ammo performance.
                • FREEDOM MUNITIONS inspects all cartridge cases for defects. The Scharch Range Master machines are fully automated and cases are checked for any debris and pressure tested for any splits or cracks. Primers are removed, flash holes are cleared, and primer pockets are reamed to accept new primers.
                • FREEDOM MUNITIONS then washes cases in an acid wash specially designed to remove all remaining burnt powder from the flash hole and interior of the case which tumbling doesn't remove. Then cases are spin dried for a factory look and finish.
                • FREEDOM MUNITIONS full length sizes all cases on our own designed machines to meet S.A.A.M.I.specification. This method is proprietary to our own designed equipment for commercial resizing, which ensures new component performance.
                • FREEDOM MUNITIONS then loads these processed components on the same fiber optic-controlled Ammo Load machines as our premium new ammo. These are the same machines used by some of the largest manufacturers in the industry. These machines assure S.A.A.M.I. specifications for priming depth, powder charge, bullet depth and overall cartridge length.
                • FREEDOM MUNITIONS "Like-New" manufacturing process with the new projectile, powder and primer assures factory ammo performance that discriminating shooters expect. "

The New ammo is made from new brass and uses the same XTP Hornady projectiles.
