Federal is the same as american eagle

I've been stocking up for camping. I have well over 1000 rounds for all my calibers. Except 380. 380 is harder to find around here than 22lr and when you do it's as much as .45. Anyway I was looking at the federal and american eagle and they are the exact same bullet same stamp and everything. So why The different branding?

Gene, having stocked up on both Federal Champion and Federal American Eagle FMJ's for range use, I called Federal because I was not sure what the difference is. I asked them which is their premium ammo. They said that Federal Champion is a lower grade ammo, made with a plated bullet, sold only at Walmart. American Eagle is their more premium ammunition. Still, the Fed Champion shoots well out of my .40 S&W.

Got to be careful in .223/5.56 also. A lot of it is made by Lake City, rebranded by Federal.

Yeah I get the federal champ 100 boxes from walmart but I've also been getting the federal champ 50 round boxes from cabelas. They were selling the 50 boxes of .40 for 15 bucks at cabelas recently so I bought a ton. But cabelas has 9mm federal champion 50 rd boxes too. I don't usually buy american eagle but they were on sale at cabelas so I got some. Comparing the federal champion 9mm with american eagle 9mm they have the same stamp but the american eagle plating looks lighter.

Yeah. looks like cabelas just started carrying it. Like I said I bought a lot of the .40 from there because good price. But right now the american eagle 9mm is like 12.50 and federal champion 9mm is almost 18.00 for 50. At my store anyway. Can I post links here?

+1. Once the bullet is gone, the brass is identical and reloads beautifully.

I don't know this for a fact in federals case, but in general plated bullets are loaded to produce slightly lower velocities than FMJ bullets. If all that you are using them for is punching holes in paper it shouldn't be a concern. Cleaner burning powder is used in the FMJ rounds and that may or may not be a concern. I prefer a cleaner burning low flash powder in my guns.
