  • Mod'd Mags Need Mote Tweaking

I had the sloppy lipped mags for my PM9. Cartridges would wiggle all over the place and even into my pocket. I looked at mags for my 1911 .45 and all was flush, pretty and tight. Ah haw, I said and took to my long nose pliers. They turned out beautiful and shot like I stole 'em. That is until I tried new-to-me Gold Dot 147gr CDHP ammo yesterday.

My first clue was when it jammed upon releasing the slide lock. But it wasn't like the nose down into the ramp jam, it was the nose into the barrel while base was still in the mag kind. Bet you haven't heard about that one have you? The cartridge looks the same size as FMJ which loads okay when eyeballing, but today I get to move in on the culprit and solve my new mystery. BTW, it jammed in each of my tweaked mags, but would occasionally load and fire s few rounds (with me peaking at each shot).

Since I'll clean the puppy anyway I'll trace it through without springs to see what jams where.

OAS (on another subject), after shooting a hundred or so rds, the slide lock didn't. I played with it there and it felt stiff like crud was locking it down. After flipping it a few times it freed up but failed again shortly after.

I'm wondering if my new-to-me Sellier & Bellot 115gr shoots dirty and I'll have to live with it until I shoot up the 450rds remaining.

I discovered the black on my slide stop wasn't the slide finish, but powder soot caked onto the slide stop pin at both edges where it goes through the holes.

I had the gun cleaned & lubed and put the slide together, then thought I need another look at the slide stop. I touched it with a tiny brass brush and crud fell off. Reminds me of the dentist telling me I'm doing terrific brushing everywhere but here, here and here.

The way it moves so freely now I'm sure that fixed it.
