  • .380 Shootout: 14 loads Tested

I just picked up the October issue of Shooting Illustrated and one of the topics is .380 Shoot Out! 14 loads tested on Pages 48 through 53 using the S&W Bodyguard 380. Lots of info and there's a table on page 53 comparing the usual performance info: velocity, energy, penetration, expansion, Recovered weight, Crush-Cavity Volume, and even Recoil, measured in foot-pounds.

I haven't READ thoroughly the article... just glanced at it so far, but it looks like a good article if you're looking for re-enforcement of your opinions or some new ammo possibilities.

I'll look, but I don't know if there's any online version of this.

    Here's their home:

No free digital version, I guess, but lots of info!

Ballistics By the Inch didn't test the 2.75" S&W Bodyguard, but they did test several of the other 2.75"-barreled guns as well as the P380, so you can make comparisons there:

and be pretty close with velocity and muzzle energy.

    Diamondback DB380 2.75" barrel

    Ruger LCP 2.75" barrel

    KelTec P3AT 2.7" barrel

    SIG P238 2.7" barrel

    Kahr P380 2.5" barrel
