Note the distinctive Golden Saber Bonded label. Some sellers have been mistakenly calling the regular Golden Sabers "Bonded" because of the BJHP abbreviation Remington uses... which stands for Brass Jacketed Hollow Points. And the bonded product # starts with GSBXXXX instead of just GSXXXX

If it weren't for shipping costs (and maybe even so) that is a very good price for premium SD ammo. My research pretty much has me thinking that there isn't a dimes worth of difference in the terminal ballistics of the premium SD ammo for the same weight and charge. You know, like comparing all the 124 +Ps from the likes of Spear, Remington, etc.

Educate me please... Isn't bonding most important for barrier penetration and not so much for rounds going directly into the body?

This is the ammo I wanted for self defense, but couldn't find it. I wound up buying another great... Speer Gold Dots. I use the Short Barrel version for my 3" PM9. The SB is low flash and is designed for short-barrel autos like mine. I use the SB 230-gr in my PM45 and have the regular versions for the standard or longer barrels.

Wyn, what do you think of this, the guy that sold my buddy his 3" barrel Kimber, said that 185 gr bullets perform better from the shorter barrel .45's, due to less mass to get moving more quickly. I've been wanting to checkout some Golden Sabre 185gr +P out of my CW45. Have a half box, gave the other half to my friend to shoot.
They were 35.00 locally, and CDT has them for under $20 for 25.

I've never shot anything in .45 other than 230-grain. Standard .45s are all I shoot. I've never chased after the latest greatest "boutique" concoctions. There are too many and I prefer the tried and true. When I reloaded .45, I loaded them to 1000 to 1050 fps, though I didn't know those would be considered +P. I used book loads and liked the extra oomph.

I just got my first .40 and I looked around and read some "expert" opinions... Massad Ayoob and a few others, and I looked at performance. I wound up deciding on the 165-grain Gold Dots... best velocity/muzzle energy/maximum distance effectiveness, etc. I'm going to shoot some shortly and see how they perform, flash-wise, accuracy(for me ) and function in my P40.

I also want to try a box of .380 Gold Dots I got for testing in my P380. I already have my defense ammo for my guns, based on what was available and best for me... performance and cost, etc.

I chose the GD Short Barrel 230-gr for my PM45, though I would still be using the Bonded Remington 230-gr Golden Sabers if they had been available. When I saw some finally reasonably-priced, I had already invested in the GDSB's.

IMHO, a very good "summer" round for a .380. For carry in the winter, in parts of the country where heavier clothing is worn, I feel a solid flat nose or Hornady CD makes a better choice.

I got the stoutest available for that... the BB 95-gr FMJ FN. The only place I go up north, I can't carry... Ill Annoy.

I've read that the good ole Hydra-Shok's bullets mushroom out at a lower velocity than some other hollow points, and have thought about using them also. Right not I'm using the Winchester PDX1 from Walmart. They function well, and are available at a reasonable price locally. Whether they mushroom or not out of a shorter barrel, you still have that big .45 hole in the bad guy.
Wyn, I think the .40 load you picked was a very good choice. I believe the 165gr and lighter bullets do a great job in .40. I'm using the Winchester Ranger for LEO use in 155gr cause I got great price on them. I've hear the reason they were being dumped on the civillian market so cheap was the jacket separates from the lead core quite often. If the jacket goes one way and the lead core goes another way, thats just more holes to bleed out of isn't it?
