And it nose-dived like a bugger with a hand rack! Worst ammo I've ever tried with the PM9, even sounded like it gave the slide release a workout (but it chambered fine that way).

Oh well, at least my XDM will enjoy it...

It was 135gr low recoil stuff, so I thought it would be the perfect combo between 124gr and 147gr.

Emptied it, loaded it back up with my Winchester PDX1 and voila, no problems hand racking at all.

funny, my cm9 had 0 issues shooting that same round... maybe they did something different with the new barrels in the pm9's and cm9s.

The Hydra-Shok and it's cousin HST can do that. I had problems with HST until I polished the feed ramp and chamber mouth. Then I tweaked the mag lips to hold it straighter and it did just fine, and has ever since. HST +P 147gn is my carry ammo so I believe in it.

yeah, it ticks me off that kahrs are so sensitive with hand racking vs slide lock release to chamber a round... One thing i like about glocks they do what they are supposed to either way everytime...

blah, i bet you were thrilled when that happened. I am not big on carrying a certain type of ammo in my carry guns. As long as it's a hollow point,has a decent rep, feeds and fires well I use it. From winchester to speer and everything in between i've shot and carried. I picked up some federal from cheaperthandirt a few months ago for 17 dollars for a 50 round box of +p+. It shots well out of my cm9 and feeds perfectly both ways thank goodness.

Out of the 800 or so rounds I've put through my PM9 at least 300 were Hydro Shok or HST's. It the only HP I have in 9mm and none has given any problems.

had similar problems with federal self defense rounds think they were hydrashock but its been a few years. i found best round for me was the win pdx or win rangerT. ive been using the pdx's now in all my self defense guns.

I'm reluctant to say it, Thunder, but chambering from recoil and from slide stop but not by hand is an indication of "casual" slingshot. Now, if it doesn't chamber from slide stop I'm all wet, but if I'm right that's good because it's easy to fix.

Remember the Kahr needs every tiny bit of slide action to operate which requires the slide being 'ripped" out of the racking hand. Even a pause at the top of the rack seems to result in the hand riding the slide when releasing.

My method even after a long time doing it, is to keep the gun pointed at the target, use the overhand rack with thumb pointing at the armpit and rack while thrusting the gun toward the target into shooting position. It's not a matter of letting go of the slide, but it being pulled out of the hand while the hand is still going back. Works every time.

Well, Kahr does tell you upfront to chamber from slide lock; for a reason. My carry round is 124 gr Hydra-Shok. Once my PM9 fully bedded in, maybe 500 rounds, I've never had an issue using slingshot for that or any other ammunition.

I'm aware of Kahr's instructions, and I don't limp on the racking. I can hand rack the Winchester PDX just fine, this is a defense weapon and racking from the slide release is ridiculous to me.

I'll stick with what works in my gun.

OldLincoln, That's a very good visual description of slingshoting a slide. A good reminder to all of us Kahr shooters not to be lackadaisical.
