How are Ladies Carrying?

Hey Ladies that carry and guys who know ladies that carry. My girlfriend and I are in the process of getting her prepared to carry. She shoots my P2000 like a champ and does pretty well with my cw45 too. She plans on taking the Ohio CCW course soon and we'll be shopping for a carry gun for her soon too (probably a PM9 but I am gonna be jealous that she'll get one before me) and I am curious to hear about how some women are carrying. I know that because of wardrobe and other factors it can be a bit more difficult to carry concealed. Would love to hear about some methods that have worked for other women. Thanks and can't wait to hear what some of you have learned in your expirience.

wife...usually OBC...purse. Would not be my choice, but allows her consistent holster and carry method no matter what dress so it works well for her.

Carrying is a very subjective thing for all of us, but for women, it can be a bit more difficult, due to body shape and clothing options.

I for one carry both iwb and owb and typically carry my PM9 or my M&P 9c. For many women, holsters tend to sit a bit to high and cause the holster to push into their ribs, or make drawing feel like one is drawing from their armpit...it depends if one is short waisted or not and it also depends upon waist and hip shape.

I would suggest that your wife, take a look at "Cornered Cat":

Then there is the issue of clothing and if one is going to carry on their person the best bet is pants with a good belt and holster. There are purses made for concealed carry, but that would not be my first choice for a variety of reasons.

When it comes to purses my wife has her fair share, so I needed to come up with a solution that worked in a variety of her hand luggage. I purchased a pocket holster (Desantis) for her model 60 and adapted it to each one of the purses with Velcro. I had a little bit of an advantage here b/c I worked at Velcro for several years and had collected a good variety of widths, materials and adhesives. I bonded the hook portion to the holster and in each purse bonded the mating loop section to the inside. Bond it up by the zipper opening or by the clasp for quick access. Don’t use the “hook” in the purse, it will abrade and collect all kinds of pocketbook what-not’s. I also modified the zipper pulls and made them easier to grab quickly without looking. With a little practice, her access is quick and fluid, maybe not as fast as the dedicated purses, but it gets her to carry more often. Now I’ve got to do the same for the Glock 26 which she has borrowed permanently.

I have been trying for my wife to get my G26, to no avail, she really like her Ruger LCP, I even offered my CW9, nope she wants that Ruger and that is all she will carry for now. :4:

I guess that once you get a CCW larger than the derringer, it's out of the question for the lovely thigh-holsters or the brassiere carry of "yore". I used to enjoy those old movies when the women carried like that.

Hmm, brassiere holster...I'll start working on the prototype right away!

+1 mx5's post. I prefer to carry appendix position because I can sort of hide the gun. But I try to tuck a layer over the grip to disguise it a little while still wearing something over it that is not tucked. The clip and small bulge can easily be "mistaken" for any of the usual electronics that people carry all the time. So I go out with that mind set. Your wife needs to just try different things (i.e. start the holster collection!) and see what she is comfortable with. Good luck and have her let us know what she likes.

Check out something like the crossbreed super tuck or a MTAC. Seems to me that style of holster would spread the bulge of a concealed handgun out and make it less noticable. Of course I will also suggest that she carry a Kahr handgun (it is a Kahr forum ya know) but seems to me a single stack semi auto is going to be the thinnest handgun type. I personally don't want anything smaller than 9mm on me BUT I am a firm believer that the 22 you have on you is better than the 45 you left at home.

I'm not a real fan of the kydex holsters but there is a crossbreed style holster that is lined that I am seriously thinking about.

Then there are always the holstered vests.

Nice video and smart lady. Could have used a little "bump & grind" music in the appropriate places. I think she has a future shooting enthusiast there. Did you see his little face light up when she pulled out that future "toy"?
