  • Laserlyte 9mm cartridge

Has anyone actually used a Laserlyte cartridge in a small 9mm like a PM9?

Will it help with training for "point shooting" and/or "instinctive shooting"?

    Thanks.

I haven't but I want to hear from someone who has. I believe that the concept is sound and should be a great tool for training - if it will work in the PM9.

Is there an important distinction between "point shooting" and "instinctive shooting"? I've been kinda using the terms interchangeably.

I think it's a matter of degree, the least time from drawing to firing: the less dependent on using sights, of getting both hands in position, raising the gun up to eye level. In both, one looks mainly at the target rather than the gun.

At least that's what I get from reading with no practical experience whatsoever!

i have the laserlyte laser pistol trainer that goes in end of barrel and is adjustable for differant calibers. and it works great with pm40 & pm9 your brain kind of records a picture of sights and flash of laser at the firing point.

I have the LaserLyte 9mm Cartridge and it helps me big time! I use it in my home office where my pistol does not leave the holster loaded. I unload in the bedroom and carry it open into the office and slip in the laser cartridge.

I tried an always on laser but found it didn't help much as the light just wiggled it's way to where I shot. No improvement at the range. This lights for 200ms by the striker hitting it which appears to be where the bullet would have gone. It has helped at the range.

Much of my practice is non-sighted reaction shooting which is difficult to practice with realism away from the range. The LaserLyte is the exception.

I used to shy away from the CT Laser but have shot RogerDodger's guns which are so equipped. I will admit I shoot those better at the range while taking my time. So now I say there is room for whatever helps you in training for a real situation. Keep in mind that situation has a high percentage of being return fire without much time for sights or even looking for the laser. I train for instinct, non-sighted fire for that reason.

As for the difference in point and instinctive shooting. They were the same to me until somebody started calling a very different grip and technique point shooting. I always took it as point the muzzle without sighting but this one is point your strong index finger at the target and pull the trigger with your middle finger.

I don't care for that kind of point shooting and try to differentiate but sometimes forget. So when I say point shooting, I mean point the muzzle without concern for where your index finger points. Been a long time since I've seen bullets fly out a fingertip.

Do you use the laserlyte target? or just a paper target on the wall?

I don't think I'd like the device that sticks out the muzzle even though it's work with multiple calibers. Being able to use the device to draw and shoot from the carry would be very important to me. Most of my training/practice is actually done using a blow-back Airsoft Glock 26. Great practice tool especially for my real Glock. I like the idea of the cartridge laser even though in the Kahrs it'd only be good for that first shot - but hey, that's probably the most important shot.

Many thanks to all for the informed responses.

I have gone ahead and ordered the cartridge version for my PM9. We'll see what happens. When I get some practice time with it, I'll report back.

Can you see the laser pulse while using the sights? My range is outdoors and it's cold here. Would like to use this in doors to refine my grip and trigger pull. Good idea or not?

Well, the one that goes in the muzzle and can work for several calibers is available for $99 or less. It only sticks out of the barrel a little bit, so could still be used with most holsters. A lot more versatile and practical, IMO.
                      Very interesting...

I'll try it and report back. It seems more efficient in the sense that it fits several calibers, not just 9mm.
