Grip Sleeves and other options for bigger hands?

Hello,

I'm considering a PM9 to replace my XD9 as a carry gun, however I have pretty big hands (more specifically, REALLY long fingers - I barely fit an XL glove) and I'm concerned this might be an issue with drawing and accuracy etc

I rented one this weekend at the range and was able to stay fairly accurate, the length of the grip was fine, just wish it had a bit more "meat" (hopefully that makes sense)

Any suggestions for grips or other mods from guys who have experienced the same issue?

What if you just want a longer trigger reach (PM-9) but not the additional grip width from a sleeve?

Is there something that can be put on the backstrap to effectively shift the gun forward?

That's what I was thinking when I saw your post, but I don't know of anything. Maybe you could make something. Actually, our beloved moderator, Bawanna, does beautiful wood grips. Maybe he could make something that would work. The only other thing I would suggest is to look at another gun or 2. Some of them have interchangeable backstraps. One that is just about as thin and just slightly bigger than the PM9 is the new Springfield XDs 45 Micro Compact. The Walther PPS seems to have a longer reach to the trigger in 9mm. Is thin, also. The PM45 has a tiny bit more trigger reach. Just some ideas. Welcome to the forum!

I went with a PPS; it has an interchangeable backstrap; the large one makes a huge difference over the grip on my CW 40.

The Hogue sleeve doesn't appear to add a lot of depth; I have no personal experience to back that up. You could possibly get someone to fab up grips that might do something for you, but I've got to second JFootin's comment, you might ought to try some other guns. Trying to "make one fit" didn't work so well for me.

Is the hogue grip pictured in this thread on upside down? If not, mine is.

Mine is upside down and I made a few easy cuts to modify it to accommodate the mag release. Make sure you slip something under the grip while you are cutting to prevent gun damage. I used a piece of the Hogue packaging the grip sleeve came in.

Kinda cheesie but it works. I used a bicycle inner tube sleeve and put a strip of leather underneath on the back side. This is 2 strips glued togeather. I had too play with trimming the leather to get it right shape. Stays in place fairly well. When it shifts its not much and only after several mags. Easily put back in place.

That is not cheesy. We have a bicycle tube on my Kahr too.

I was referring to putting the leather under the bike tube. But then again, I'm a chessy kinda guy.

I suppose a guy could build up the backstrap and then put a larger size innertube over it to tie it all together. That would certainly add depth and very little width. I'd want to acraglas or epoxy whatever you put on the back in place so you don't count on the tube to hold it.

Actually building up the back area with acraglas alone with the black dye might work pretty darn good.

Maybe I should patent this theory before speedy gonzales kahrseye steals it and makes a million off it.


I actually have an officer with the same issue. His back up off duty is a PM9 but his fingers are so darn long they go clean through the trigger guard and he can hit the mag release easily with his trigger finger, actually thats the issue.

I offered to cut his fingers down some but he wasn't real receptive to that idea.

I use a rubberized gauze grip tape to build up my grips. The tape sticks to itself and not the grip. Have tried Rescue Tape in the past which does the same thing and has a smooth rubbery texture. Both products allow you make the grip as thick as you like.
