  • Mag Holder by BearDog

Today I received my new 7rd 9mm dual spare mag holder from BearDog. There's lot of pics as it's a real work of art. Very fine craftsmanship and a excellent design from my sketch - yes a custom product, but perhaps not for long.

I've wanted a mag holder but not just any mag holder. It had to be as concealable as my Silent Thunder which vanishes under a shirt, and like the Silent Thunder, had to be tuckable. Finally, I could not afford the $75+ I saw for established names. After seeing BearDog's pics in this thread I knew he was onto something. I suggested the mod adding the Garrett clip and the rest is history.

It is an IWB design using a Garrett belt clip making it tuckable. It is only 1.5" thick and nestles into my left side disappearing under clothing. Bear added a tension adjustment with access from the rear so I don't have to mess with the clip side for that. It nestles into my side and is already comfortable although just starting to forming to my body. I'll be wearing it all day every day and expect it to not be noticeable after a week.

Bear did a terrific job and was great to work with. This is a hobby for him but it looks to me like he's be a pro for a long time. PM him if this is something like what you are interested in. It'll turn out good.

    Here are the pics.

Thanks for the pic's but, I already have three on order for all three of my
Kahrs. I am just waiting for him to ship them to me. I agree he does nice work and I see myself ordering more from him for my various 1911's.

Yeah, I took a coupl pics of it with my overshirt, but why? It disappears so well tucked you know it does with the overshirt. In fact, now I only wear an overshirt in nice weather because my wife doesn't like my suspenders showing when we're out.

It is very nice not have mags filling my left front pocket or leaving them at home. The holder is fitting my body each day now and I'm noticing it less.

You did a terrific job, Bear and I really appreciate it.

BEARDOG sent me pictures of mine today. These look awesome. Mine has the thin metal clip which is removable for pocket carry if so desired. Can't wait to try it out. Thanks BEARDOG for making these available.
I've lost my memory, and I can't remember where I put it.

I was just thinking of that very thing. Looking at DKD's, if there was a clip on the back side they would work on a belt. Those would only work for a left hander since the bullets are pointed back but the principle would work.

Anxious to hear how yours work out. I never pocket carry and something that nice deserves a nice place on the belt.

                      Thanks Guys!
Here is the Double IWB-Pocket wallet mag pouch going out to Deano.

I am really liking this new Tuckable IWB-Pocket double mag holder. Whenever I get time I will be making one like this for myself... I like this for its dual purpose usefulness by just taking the clip off. I faced the mags out so it can be used anywhere... IWB or back/front pocket and works on either the right or left side. I used a spring steel 1.5" belt clip and embedded a T-nut in between the leather so it can be snugged down tight. I also used two tension adjustment screws to cover the extra height of the front panel.

Excellent idea, however if your receptive to very positive criticism, one of the mags will always be backwards. The concept of being able to put it anywhere is awesome but I'd always want bullets forward where ever it is.

Granted a second mag is seldom needed and it's better to have it backwards than at home in the spare mag drawer but something I'd have to get used to.

                        Awesome looking set up though.

                          Bawanna,
I did consider that, and made Deano aware of it as well,... This is not really the problem like you think it would be...Because of the full sweat shield/wallet backer the way you draw these is by grabbing them with your finger and thumb on the front and back, after it is pulled out and you are bringing it around to the gun it is just a a matter of quick flip/turn(hard to put into words) as you move your fingers to the sides to orient them for inserting in the gun.

I did test draw from this holder and it was very easy for me to do ... and it is this mag position which makes it possible to make this holder ambidextrous and dual purpose. See the ^ shaped area that I have in the middle at the bottom that gives me room for the T-nut and that lets me keep it the same size as my regular wallet only holder.

I have seen many other makers also face the mags out like that, I myself own a few holders like this, even the much coveted Milt Sparks makes an IWB holder that faces the mags out. So it is something that is done.
I know it is a bit of a compromise but the gains out way any negatives for use in my design IMO.

Since my post I've pondered and I do believe I'm already warming to the concept. I've never seen it done like that before but the benefits of being actually ambidextrious out weigh having the bullets forward.

I shall continue to try and wrap my mind around this. I know there's not much for me to work with, small mind and all but I'll give it my best shot.

I also like that if I want to completely cover this IWB, there is room to tuck a t-shirt between the leather and clip, albeit a small space.
I've lost my memory, and I can't remember where I put it.
