PJ Holster Clip Style

Due to the overwhelming support of PJ Holsters in this forum I am convinced this is the right holster for my CW9. I have settled on the IWB Tuck-able version, but I am torn on which style of clip would work best.

My question to this forum is which type of clip do you believe works best of his available options. I was considering the J-clip (behind the belt),but I am not sure if there are stability problems verses the standard style of clip.

I would appreciate any advice and or wisdom you may have regarding this.

I prefer the over the belt loop. The belt offers more support of the weight of the gun than the waist band of your pants.

That said, I use it for my PM9 and the j clip works fine weight wise. It rides in the right place. So if you like j clips go ahead and get the holster with one.

Ditto. The J clip made the waistband of my pants sag on the tuckable one I bought. I cut the curved clip off and added velcro to it and one of my belts. It works great, is stable and the ride height and cant can be slightly adjusted.

I bought another one non tuckable and with the over the belt clip and I love it! The other one stays in the drawer because, being retired, I don't have much need for tuckable complete concealment. Just an untucked shirt covers the one I use.

I did cut off the bottom part and use the velcro..works great for my pm 9 and doesn't show one bit.

My experience with these holsters says they need a belt. They were not designed or intended to be worn without one. I suppose you could carry one without a belt, but you'd need a strong waistband to do it, and I don't think it would be very secure at all. I think the holster would come out of your waistband with the gun! I also believe I read somewhere that Paul of PJ does not recommend his holsters be used without a belt.

Not a good idea to try this at all. None of the pants that you mention would provide enough support to hold the weapon in position. Besides,
there is nothing for the clips to attach to. Invest in a good gun belt such as those made by Galco which are reinforced to sustain the weight of the weapon.
You might be able to use a Remora holster which is made to grip the inside of your waistband without clips. However, in the case of light weight material, the weight of the weapon might present a problem unless the waistband was pretty tight.

I was looking at his website last night and you are correct he recommends you wear a belt with his holsters for the same reason you just stated.

I am pretty sure I am going to go with the standard over the belt clip on a tuckable holster. I feel like that would give me the options to dress down (shirt out) and dress a little more business appropriate when necessary.

I think Paul must be getting busy. I read other threads that said they got their holsters in two weeks. I just emailed Paul about my holster that I ordered a little over two weeks ago, and he said that mine is close to coming up on his schedule, and it should ship out be next Monday. That will put the total from time of order to receiving it at about 3.5 weeks. That's not bad and I'm sure it's worth the wait, but I am just seriously bad at waiting.

I know the feeling I get a little anxious waiting as well, but compared to other custom holster manufacturers out there I feel he is doing really well getting the product out.

I know the felling of waiting already as I just ordered my PJ holster for my PM9 this morning. I know it will be worth the wait. I agree that 3 weeks is great for a custom maker.

To the athletic shorts question...First off, I don't want to start a debate on gun belts or not. We all know a good belt would be better than not. With that said, My CM9/pj combo works perfectly in my athletic shorts. You just need good elastic in the waistband and a good draw string. The kydex clips on the pjholster don't work without a belt. The holster comes right out with the gun when drawn. I cut off the kydex clip and attached a metal one. I was initially worried about it holding up, but it has now been my edc for 4 months without fail. I jog with this combo, and even feel like I could play basketball with it.
