  • Remora Holsters 40% off Sale

I've been thinking about giving these a try, and what better time than now since there's a 40% off sale for Halloween.

However, there are a few options that I would love some opinions on since I am a very indecisive and stingy person (I.e., if I opt to go stingy, I'll kick myself later, but if I splurge, I'll kick myself later, too)

I'd be looking to pick up a couple IWB/Pocket type holsters for a TCP and a PM9, both with Crimson Trace lasers.
Is the normal lining sufficient? Upgrade to plush? Upgrade to leather something or other?
Does the reinforced top just add bulk or is there functionality there, too?
Sweat shield? Probably not if pocket carry is a possibility?

Any input at all would be greatly appreciated, and quick, as I have no idea how long the sale runs.

Thanks for the info on the discount. I needed a pocket holster for my MK40 and CM45 so I just ordered. Can't beat the price.

What options did you go with as far as sweat shield, lining material, etc

Blah I need to get to sleep so I just went ahead and splurged. Bought a couple holsters, went for the cowhide lining, even got one in white. Supposedly they have a friendly return policy so it seemed low-risk.

I've got Remoras for my Glock 19 (with and w/o light), DB9 (plain and one with reinforced top), and my CM9 (with and w/o Lasermax). All are plain black with sweat shield (keeps the gun off your skin). The reinforced top (DB9) is to make it easier to holster while wearing, but it's quite a bit bulkier and you need the belt to tighten it down (maybe it needs some break-in time?). Don't need the plush or leather options. I'd buy plain black w/ sweat shield first, then try the other options later if I were you, they are inexpensive enough to get several for each gun. I find them very comfortable, but need an undershirt to keep from sweating. Works great with my CM9, but now I'm trying out a Little Foxx, really like it too. Collecting holsters is a new hobby I didn't expect!!!

My take on Remora Holsters, get one, plain Jane, no fancy stuff. Go from there.... (They have frequent sales) The stock Remora without any upgrades is a working holster, everything else is just gravy or icing for specific uses. If you have a TCP and a PM9 right now you can get a basic holster for both for $30 plus shipping. Neither pistol is big enough or sharp enough that you would need anything besides the basic remora. What you want, now that is a different boat....

Upgrades.... well this all depends on how you want to carry each pistol... The TCP as an IWB, why? you have a PM9 for that.... but it is up to you anyway. PM9 for pocket, why? you have the TCP for that...etc...

I am divided on the leather vs Normal denier lining, I like both, but to just have one, it would be the standard denier. Why? It will dry fast and seems to wear very well...but the leather is thinner and seems to mold pretty well in my experience. Both kinds do not let sweat through....

Sweatshield.... YES for IWB, meh for pocket carry.... Unless you want to have a pocket holster that breaks up the outline of the pistol.... THEN you should order a FULL sweat shield for the OPPOSITE hand you want to carry in the pocket for.... I ordered a full sweatshield on my CW380 holster and now I have a VERY comfortable Right Hand IWB and a LEFT hand FRONT pocket holster that breaks up the outline... WOO Hoo! two for one.

I do not have a mag carrier attached to any of mine (yet), but that looks like a great option for something like a keep by the bed pistol. Keeps everything together, and you can walk around the house in sweats with a pistol and a reload, or wedge it in the couch cushions, or between the seat and console in you car to have pistol and reload together.....

My email says the coupon for 40% off expires Monday at midnight, so you have time. In my opinion, just get two basic ones with no upgrades for the TCP and PM9, or at the most, get one leather lined, one not and compare.

Have never thought about the Reinforced Top models, just not my thing, dont have to put it away if its empty, just watch the movies and throw it at them!!!

Please let us know what you get and how you like it....

What mods did you get for your MK9 Remora? I got a plain lined partial sweat shield, and it also carries real well in the pocket with the Remora....

I just got the basic IWB. It will mainly stay in the truck. I don't carry that often, but should be easy enough to stick in waist if I need to. I've been curious about the Remora. Many positive posts about them. Glad to have a reason to buy.

Ya done right.... Start with the basic and check it out. I was very skeptical about the "clipless" holsters. I got a Sticky first as they sold them locally, seems to work pretty well.... Then checking out the Remora, liked the features and "stickability" better, so went with them and have not looked back.... Let us know what you think of it when you get it...

I got two of them, both with the leather lining. I figured the thinner leather would help with pocket carry, while at the same time being the middle ground in terms of original vs reinforced top where the leather lining acts to keep the opening open to some degree between those two.

I currently carry my TCP hot with a clipdraw and a foam rubber block thing behind the trigger that pushes out if need be, and worn around 4:30. It's ultra minimal so I may have been spoiled with this setup. Chances are this remora is getting shipped back or given away if it doesn't make me completely happy with its pocket performance. I've been happy with a simple Blackhawk #3 for the pocket so thickness really is what will make or break the remora solution. For the TCP I got a 2ART (lower cut), CT Laser accommodation, leather lining, and white shell.

I just picked up my PM9 because winter is around the corner and the internet made me lose faith in the 380acp through winter clothing. I feel like the PM9 will get coat pocket duty, but if I find that I'm often away from my coat by being indoors then I'll see how the remora performs IWB. I feel like jeans pocket might be pushing it as I've read the remora is bulky even with leather option. For the PM9 I got the 3B size I think it was, CT Laser accommodation (though I haven't even bought a laser yet), leather lining, and black shell.

The way I saw it, the coupon code was like a free leather lining upgrade on these. Made sense to me at the time.

I agree with the coupon, it is like getting the leather for free... and that is a valid comparison with the leather vs RFT, but the RFT WILL stay open it seems, the leather will be easier to reholster than the denier lining...

The TCP with the clipdraw is like saying she is wearing too much with the bikini on... either one will be good, but it will be hard to not notice more with your remora than a clipdraw... Worse comes to be, just put it here in the classified section should you feel the bikini (remora) is too much...

The PM9 in the leather lining for coat pocket duty may need a week or two of IWB to mold the leather for some kind of retention in the coat pocket. A jeans pocket may be fine if it has some large pockets like the Members Mark Jeans from Sams Club.... they have copious pockets for some cheaper jeans. Levis, or other brands, more than likely your draw will suffer from too many fingers in the space syndrome. I find it helps to modify the draw to a pinch with your thumb on the top of the slide and your ring finger on the magazine/grip base. As the pistol clears the pocket, start wrapping your middle finger around the grip and slide the thumb down the off side until you have a good firing grip.... works for me... It will do great duty for the IWB regardless...

Let us know what you think when you get them and after you have tried them out.. all this, I may have to get another...

Actually, I got two, one black with Sweat shield and one without. That way I'll have one for IWB if I decide to go that way and one for the pocket, Jacket or pants. They should work with my MK40, PM9, or CM45.

Thanks for the heads up on the sale! I have a Remora for every carry pistol I own. Glock 19/23, Makarov and S&W 438. I just got a Kahr CM9 and was pondering what to carry it in and turns out to be perfect timing. Alan is a great guy. He even made me a custom passport holder for a trip overseas. Just tuck it down the pants and it holds strong against pickpocket attempts. Great holsters.
