  • DIY Holsters

    Evening,

Since I'm such a tightwad and like figuring things out on my own, I decided to make a few holsters for my CM9. I needed a pocket carry holster for work and wanted a hybrid IWB holster for personal use, so I searched the net to get some ideas. The only place in the Austin area that had kydex was Tandy Leather, which was good since I needed some leather too. I found everything I needed and headed out the door for less than $30. These work very well and meet my needs. They're not the purtiest, but they work and aren't for sale. If you DIYers need an explanation, or how I did it, let me know. I'll gladly explain. Took some trial and error, but I like how these work.

Great looking holsters. I have a few kydex but I was looking for a new leather holster here a month or two ago. Thought I'd save some money and make my own. WRONG! Leatherworking tools are expensive! But hey, did leatherwork as a kid and since I really don't have much to do in my off time, figured I'd start back in.....slowly.

I hear ya. I thought about leather, but dang, those tools ARE expensive. Tandy has a sale on leather remnants bags for $6.99. Depending on the leather, you can prob get enough leather to make a holster.

I'm not sure I follow the design of that pocket holster. Is that leather flap to mitigate printing? They look good. Well done.

Yes sir. I made it without the flap 1st and noticed it would print so I saw wallet style pocket holsters on line and liked the idea. I didn't want the flap up too high and wanted plenty of room to get a grip on the gun. I also put a little flat spot on the kydex for a thumb push off. I've practiced drawing prob 50 times and it hasn't come out with my gun. Seems to be working good.

Cool. Sounds well thought out. Does the hook at the bottom still catch on your pocket material (and help keep it from drawing with the gun)?

Yes, the leather is soft and flexible enough that it folds as the holster is pulled allowing the hook to catch if need be. I made a leather pocket holster but the kydex is thinner. The CM9 is about the largest pistol I'd want to pocket carry. I'm sure a P380 would be sweet in a pocket holster.

                Nice job, Tim!

Well, here's my DIY version of a CW45 holster. I'm a big fan of K-Holster, who unfortunately is now out of business. I like the large amount of leathar on the backside of the holster to keep the gun from digging into my fat belly! The gun came with a kydex OWB holster, so I took it apart, went to Michaels, bought a $10 piece of black leather, and copied the K-Holster I have for my 2 Taurus guns. I'm happy with the results. It's completely comfortable, and doesn't allow the gun to dig into me.
