cw45 load info needed

I just got a cw45 and it handles factory 230gr fmj flawlessly. when I put my reloads that I use in my 1911 also 230gr fmj. It chambered the first round fired and faied to go into battery with remaining rounds, by about 1/8 inch or less. I could nudge the slide into battery and fire it.
I did not do the "plunk" test and will next reload session but would like to hear what OAL you use for these guns.

There are 2 things that can cause this and the OAL is 1 of them. Kahr's have a short throat. so it depends on the bullet shape, but most can use 1.200 with 230 gr RN. The 2nd thing is the charge weight. 1911 guns will cycle with a smaller load than a new Kahr, especially one not yet broken in. If you are loading target ammo, you may need to go to a heavier powder charge. Use something in the middle to high end velosity, stay under max loads. Use these until after your breakin is complete and then work down for targets if you want.
For OAL do the plunk test first for your bullet that you load.

List the load that is not working for you and we can give you better advice.

I agree that the OAL of 1.260 is most likely causing the problems. I can't get that to chamber in my Kahr's either.

I think it would be good and safe to re-seat the ammo you have already loaded to the shorter OAL without any problems and then shoot it in the Kahr. You might try some by doing that. It should not affect the ammo by re-seating.

I use a Lee single stage press. To get my 45's to cycle regularly I bought the factory crimp die. Before I used that I gave a guy 500 rounds because they wouldn't go into battery regularly. It also had to do with bullet shape. My Berry's would work without the factory die, but lead round nose needed the factory die.

Your friend made quite a score getting 500 free 45"s. (or any other caliber). I bet he checks on your ammo supply frequently now.

A key word in your original post is that you "Just" got your CW45. During break in it requires more umph to overcome friction than once well broken in. You may have to increase powder measure a tad for a few hundred rounds. It's rated for +P so it can take a reasonably high standard load without issue. The length has been an issue before also so it won't hurt to tighten it up. You can tell if it's too long by inserting a round directly into the chamber and push it in firmly. Invert the barrel and it should slide out.

If it feeds factory rounds well and they are 1.261 then I'd go back to a little hotter load.

Lots of good info. The cw45 I got was a return with 50 to 1o0 rounds fired, It was to much recoil for the original owner. I put another 110 rounds thru it then tried my reloads.
I think I will re-seat a few for the next range trip and see how that goes. What is a good starting point for coal?

230gr Round Nose FMJ from Zero bullet co.
I dont like lead either I loaded and shot about 20 rounds from my 38 and sold the remainder and now just shoot and load FMJ or plates I did not like the dirt and smoke from the lube on lead bullets

I made a mistake and listed my COAL as 1.260 it was 1.266 and I reduced it to 1.262 and increased the crimp ..002 and everything goes Bang now with no issues.
