  • Does anyone use Clays powder for 9mm?

My Lyman 47 only lists it for 147gr bullets but I have on hand a 1000
115gr jacketed HP's that I'l like to work up a load. The book lists 231 and Bullseye, both of which I have, but I loved the Clays in 45acp and would
like to try it in 9mm if I can figure out a safe load to begin with. I had
intended to start with 147 coated bullets but got a good deal on the HP's and would like to use them up.

Thanks for ref. I started yesterday with plated HP 115gr and 3.7gr Clays. It Cycled the slide on CW9 very well. Recoil felt a bit stout, so dropped load down to 3.5gr and that produced a really soft recoil but still cycled slide. Only fired 10 rounds due to wx so it
remains to be seen if that load works out in the long run. I mostly plink so a soft load
suits me. Clays fill the case to a point its an easy visual check on each but not
so full that bullet compresses the powder. The COL are 1.110.

I've since lowered the Clays to 3.0gr, with 115gr Blue RN, and fired a bunch thru the CW9 as well as a Ruger LC9s. It cycled perfectly, not throwing cases very far, and the recoil is noticeably soft.

Loved it enough That I loaded up five boxes and used up all the Blue bullets. Gotta order some more.
