Leaded barrel

Shot some hard cast reloads in my CM9 today...I was doing a chrony test on them. Ended up leading my barrel a bit.
They were 125gr round nose. with 4.2 of HP-38. They measured 950-980 on the chrony.

I shot this same load out of my EZ9 they ran around 1050 with no problems. But that was when the weather was a lot cooler. It was 99 degrees today, I wonder if that could be the problem.

Once I shoot all these I am switching to all FMJ's anyway.

I am guessing too hard or too soft lead, but ......I don't shoot unplated lead in most of my guns so......?

Since it sounds like you are not a caster, (and I am cheap), I suggest plated bullets. I have had good luck with Rainier.

The only lead bullets I ever used in my 9mm were the 147 gr. with W-231 and I did not expereince leading. The W-W 14th Edition manual lists 3.3 gr W-231 as starting load and 3.5 gr. W-231 as maximum load at ca 900 fps.

You can get real FMJ bullets from Precision Delta for nearly the same price as rainier. I used Rainier for a long time and then found Precision Delta someone here recommended. Good bullets.

This was the first time I shot some hard cast lead out of my Kahr, so I am not sure why I got some leading and no leading in my EZ9, the only thing that was different was it was about 20 degees when i shot some though my EZ9 and almost 100 degrees when i shot them out of the kahr. Would that temp increase the velocity enough to have some barrel leading?

I have about 300 left of the hard cast then I am going to use the precision delta's. I got 1000 left on my door step a few days ago. Our UPS guy normally just leaves the packages and runs down the driveway. They are under a lot of pressure to delivery lots of packages in a short time.
