Favorite Gangster Movie

FYI - "Last Man Standing" is a remake of the 1964 Italian film "A Fistful of Dollars" starring Clint Eastwood. However, that movie was itself a remake of the 1961 Japanese film "Yojimbo," starring Toshiro Mifune. All three are good movies, but I'm partial to the original 1961 version because it gives you a glimpse into the Japanese culture.

I have a very difficult time choosing a favorite anything, but I'll throw this incredible gangster movie in the mix for your consideration...Leon: the professional.

These are ones I like best and they're all relatively new...The Untouchables, Last Man Standing, Road to Perdition, Harlem Nights and Public Enemies.

Mentioned before though not period correct...Heat, Goodfellas and Pulp Fiction. But no mention of Reservoir Dogs...the ear and gasoline is almost as bad as Casino's corn field beating. Ouch!

Whatever happened to Johnny Dangerously with Michael Keaton and Joe Piscopo? I saw it in the theater, I remember it being funny though I was about 12 at time and everything was funny then.

Miller's Crossing (1990) was great drama and had some interesting and authentic gun scenes. Stars were Gabriel Byrne, Albert Finney, Marcia Gay Harden, Jon Polito and John Turturro.

Underrated Cohen brother Gem. Anyone who hasnt should check this one out. The scene were they come for the old man is bad ass.

goodfellas, the godfather, casino, scarface, road to perdition, a bronx tale.

pesci & deniro are the best gangstas but hanks is best actor overall imho. im 30 so im not too familiar with a lot of the old greats but cant imagine any better than hanks overall. scene for scene pesci is the man. "funny how?"

These are "period" gangster flicks....I never cared for movies outside the setting of the 20-30's era (i.e., "modern" gangsters)...

Sorry for the necromancy of this thread, but I have to second Key Largo as my favorite. The Untouchables is a close second.
