  • An Airsoft stage to Zootshooting?

Over on the Fedoralounge (a forum some of you are familiar with, and others who wish to expand their wardrobe should register on), a fellow planned to buy one of the airsoft Thompsons (with drum) and try to talk a wwII reenactor to organize an aerosoft shoot out, only instead of it being line a wwIi reenactment, it will be a public enemy style with shotguns, tommy guns and postols, and of course, true, vintage clothing.

In PA, there was a recent three gun shoot in late October billed as a "Zombie Shoot". One stage of the shoot was room-clearing, done with Airsoft weapons.

I saw one of those airsoft Thompsons at the 2009 SHOT Show. It was cool. I was going to put a link on the website to it but I couldn't remember the name of the company that made it. I tried searching a little and only found dealers. I'll try to track it down at the SHOT Show in January and get some pics and video (you could shoot it in their booth).

Note that there's also a sawed-off Airsoft double barrel.

Do all the airsoft guns need to be cocked every time to fire a single shot? No full auto or semis that only need to be cocked once?

The airsoft Tommy I saw at SHOT was full-auto. Battery operated? I'll look for it in January.

There are motor-driven full-auto (AEG?) airsoft guns.

The wife wanted to know what I wanted for Xmas. Well after reading this thread and doing some homework there could only be one answer: an AEG 1928 Thompson Chicago Typewriter full auto airsoft gun. It should be here in about a week. The agony is that she's going to make me wait until Xmas to open the box!

I participated in an indoor airsoft "game" a while back at the invite of a good friend who is into that and paintball. There happened to be a fellow present using a gas powered Thompson. It was pretty nice. It had a unique sound that was more like a real firearm, although not nearly as loud. I enjoyed having him do room clearing with me as it was just neat to see someone using a classic gun as their main equipment. I cannot say that the airsoft guns providing any realistic shooting experience, but it was an interesting opportunity to work on some room clearing techniques. The airsoft guns (at least the good ones) did have realistic sights and controls, so there was an opportunity to work on sight picture and manipulation of the various weapon controls (selector, mag release, etc.) while under pressure.

I went back to the booth where I saw the airsoft Thompson at the SHOT Show last year. Palco Sports makes them and they are nice. The Undertaker, John Dillinger, Dame West and myself all want one. I took some videos of us shooting it and will post soon. Here's the link to the one we shot on Palco Sports' website...
