After considering all the wise counsel from this board, and reading reviews up the wazzu, I decided on a fairly basic entry level 1911 for my first one. Also got some ultra thin grips for my small hands. Strangely enough, they both arrived today. Feels great, can't wait to shoot 'er. Here's what she looks like all dressed up with the new grips. Oh almost forgot, it's a Remington R-1 two tone.

I agree. The ACII was my first 1911, I no longer have it though. It is a great entry 1911. Mine was flawless with ball and HP ammoOriginally posted by HenryinFlorida View PostHere is my MetroArms American Classic II I ordered from Bud's in January. It was $446.00 delivered. I think it was a great bargin. It shoots great, 200+ without a flaw.

Congrats on a nice pistol Deano!
I have the stainless steel version of it that I'm still wringing out. Pistol is darn accurate out of the box. One thing (I've seen this on several forums with early guns so I'm not sure it's even an issue anymore), check the dust cover for any burrs that might scratch the bottom front of the slide (FWIW, mine didn't have any). Remington does a some neat things with this pistol, but I did find a couple of things on mine that needed a little TLC (not saying your gun will need any), plus the recoil spring in mine seemed a little soft so I put a fresh 16 pounder in it (again, not saying yours will need one). Enjoy your new pistol (slim grips look great); look forward to hearing your range report.

nice. The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

When I saw the new Remington 1911's I was favorably impressed, simple, yet elegant, and the action was as smooth as warm butter. The fit was excellent and the slide was very tight. All that was needed was a cuople of (8) round after market magazines. A very fine pistol for the money. The new R-1 Enhanced model has some fine additional features. Good luck with her.

I've held 3 of those here locally and without exception they were all very very nice. Exceptionally nice triggers. I thought it was just a fluke on the first one but the other two were extremely nice also.
I'm happy for you, I think it's a great gun.http://bawanna45.wix.com/bawannas-grip-emporium#!

I will definitely post a range report. ThanksOriginally posted by itsthelaw View PostThat's a good looking gun and reviews are great. Would love to hear your thoughts after first shots are fired.
Glad to hear it.Originally posted by ilmbaba View PostVery nice. I got my first 1911 not too long ago. I really like it.
I seriously considered that one. Reviews are great. I may still get one just for another hide in the den gun.Originally posted by HenryinFlorida View PostHere is my MetroArms American Classic II I ordered from Bud's in January. Jeepster is one of my heroes.Originally posted by JFootin View PostDang! That R-1 almost looks like one of Jeepster09's guns! Pretty!
It does still, but the one in the picture has black grips. Mine came with some ugly looking walnut colored grips. Odd. Greg, thanks for the tips. I will check it over carefully before shooting. First I need to read up on how to disassemble this beauty.Originally posted by gb6491 View PostCongrats on a nice pistol Deano!

I almost got the enhanced. Bawana, I was thrilled for you when you got your SR1911. I would have got that one had I been able to find one. Still might some day. I thought of you while changing the grips. It was a complete bugger getting the channel screws out and the new ones in. Got any suggestions for making it easier? I mangled up a couple of the thick ones getting them out. Finally had to end up using vice grips to get them to turn. Any suggestions on making that easier?Originally posted by Bawanna View PostI've held 3 of those here locally and without exception they were all very very nice. Exceptionally nice triggers. Also gonna start looking for some mags. There's plenty of threads on here, but if anyone has any recommendations, feel free to post 'em here.I've lost my memory, and I can't remember where I put it.
