Hey O'Dell. Stick some of them unused holsters in the for sale forum. Maybe we can find good homes for 'em.

I wear shorts and tees/polos most of the year, especially indoors. I buy Large shirts and wear them untucked the year around for concealment. My P40 is at least 8 ounces lighter than my K9... and it's Mag-na-ported... and I really appreciate the lighter weight. I wear real shorts from Lands End with the shortest inseams... nowadays about 6" is the shortest I can find. I don't like big bulky cargo shorts extending to or past my knees... defeats the whole purpose of shorts... to allow my legs to radiate heat and cool me off a bit!

With my Kydex-reinforced Looper gunbelt and my Mini Tuck IWB holsters, my EDC is not weighty, but well-supported!

      Some of my "EDC collection":

This one is a Front Line Deep Concealment from 7.62 precision in Alaska. Very comfortable and very tuckable as I wear with slacks and dress shirts at work and no one knows I am carrying. Instead of 38 waist, I buy 40 and cinch up the belt. Wear a western style belt and it holds up great.

Does the leather go all of he way up the gun on the side that goes against your body? It looks like it falls a little short. Other than that, looks like an excellent holster!

There is no slide protection on the inside, my only gripe. I wear a t shirt all the time so it does not bother me. This hot Texas summer might be a different story though, we will see.

              DE:

Since you asked about carrying and not necessarily shooting it a lot; here goes. . .

The P40 at 16.8 oz. will be noticeably easier to carry than the K40 at 24.1 oz.

The 43% extra weight will be obvious to you. It will be pulling down on your pants 43% more, making you adjust them more often.

I base the aforementioned results on my personal experience with carrying the Star Firestar at 30.2 oz. compared with carrying my PM9 at 14 oz.*
Both results were compared with proper Crossbreed holsters and gunbelts.

*= all weights are sans magazines or ammo.

On the other hand the K40 will be noticeably more comfortable to shoot than the P40. Although both will have sharp recoil from the stout .40 S&W.

i really like the k series pistols and cc my k9 daily. the weight is definitely heavier then the poly's but i'll trade that anyday for the stability of the steel platform the k series gives. imo, even with the smooth triger it makes this pistol an even better performer.

There IS an alternative... the Kahr ported barrel... or getting the slide and barrel Mag-na-ported. The cost is about the same. My P9 now has the ported barrel and my P40 is Mag-na-ported. The P40 was my EDC until I put the Big Dot NS on it. I still need to get used to those, so I've been carrying the P9 with the ported barrel.

I started to make some headway with the Big Dots and then my LaserLyte LT-40 cartridge proved to be about 5 inches off the aimpoint at about 5 yards... kind of hard to hit the 2 1/2 inch Reaction Tyme Targets!

I returned the LT-40 to Midway and found they were out of LT-40's, so that's back-ordered. I need to get to the range with the P40 again. I consistently shot about 4 inches lower, even covering the bull, at 7 yards with the P40 and the Big Dots.

I don't have both, only the K40. I can only hope the extra weight of the steel frame is noticeable--that's why I bought it. It's a tiny little gun, IMO, and I prefer having the extra mass. I don't carry anything whatsoever in my pockets, except maybe an occasional Kleenex or the car keys, so pocket carry of a firearm isn't a consideration for me. In a holster, especially one that fits nice and close, I truly prefer the heft of the K.

Bongo, your ported K40 is really nice. Mind telling me who did it or is it posted here somewhere else? Is it the magna port?

That port shape is trademarked by Mag-Na-Port, I believe.
                        Very interesting...

Most agree, they are the best.
I was once asked if I was "a paranoid for carrying my Kahr".
                          "Nope" I said, "just prepared".
" prepared for what" he asked?

Well, I ended up buying a K40 off Gunbroker. Very good cond, 2 mags, plastic case and manual for $399. (I think I did good). Got smooth wood grips to go with it, but because of NJ's stupid laws, I can only buy one gun a month, so I have to wait 28 more days, as I just bought a S&W mod 19 .357 I'l post pics when i get it.
