  • Need Help! Getting Ready to Order K9 Blem From Bud's

I'm getting ready to order a K9 Blem from Bud's. The listing for the gun says "CA LEGAL". The model number is listed as "ZK9093N". I can't figure out what the "ZK" stands for. The 9093N means a regular K9 with night sights. Does anyone know if this means that it is the regular K9, and it is simply legal to be sold in CA, or is the gun somehow different mechanically (e.g. different trigger pull) than the regular K9?

If anyone knows and could answer quickly I would greatly appreciate it as I am getting ready to "pull the trigger" on this gun.

    Thanks!!

K9093N is for a regular K9 with night sights. The K is Kahr code for steel frame. Its the Z that's mysterious. Somebody asked the same question last year about a California legal blem model from Bud's and no one seemed to have the answer. Does it designate the blem or have to do with California? Maybe it has a mag disconnect or a loaded chamber indicator or both.

      Maybe its a 2 not a Z?

Just searched for 'blem' on Bud's website. Nearly all, but not every, blem starts with Z. Probably just a way Bud's designates factory blems.

Thanks for the input everyone! All of the available blem K9's on Bud's are listed as "CA LEGAL", which suggests to me that they may not be that desirable, possibly due to having the LCI and magazine disconnect. For that reason, I think I'm going to hold off and wait until a regular K9 blem becomes available. Or I may just bite the bullet and but a new one if my impatience gets the best of me....

I can live with the LCI, but the stupid magazine disconnect drives me up the wall. Actually on the Kahr P380, the LCI sticks up between the sights and throws off the sight picture. I have a crimson trace on it so I really don't use the sights that often, but still!!

I wouldn't have either if there's a choice. More stuff to wear out or break.

I believe the K9 is on the list of California approved pistols, and no changes have been made to it, so it still is. I don't think any K9 has an external safety or LCI. They don't have a capacity above the limit in California. It is my understanding California requires a manufacturer to resubmit a pistol for approval (and include micro-stamping) if any changes are made to it. Kahr hasn't changed the K9 in a long time, so it remains on the list. I believe every K9 is CA legal.

Alfonse is correct, if no changes have been made to a previously listed gun and the dealer pays the renewal fee, they're good to go. That's whey Ruger Mark II pistols were still available till 2 years ago. I still refuse to purchase the Mark III.

California did it again recently. No Glocks that are made in America can be sold in California. Got to love the American state of California!

I am the OP. Based on the above info, I went ahead and placed my order with Bud's for a K9 Elite blem, no night sights. The price was $563.00. Seems like a pretty good deal to me. I will post photos and a report as soon as I get it next week.

I think you will love it. They are beautiful and one of my favorite pistols. The blem are usually really hard to find.

California resident here. Just received my K9 "blem" from Bud's. Neither myself or my gunsmith (who is also the FFL who receives my Bud's orders) could figure out why it would be classified as a "blem." No mark on the trigger guard, either (I was told there'd be a mark denoting it's "blem" status... none to be found!)

Note: this is the regular K9 (not elite), blem, without night sights, designated by Bud's as "KAHR K9 9MM 3.5 SS 8RD CA LEGAL BLEM ZK9093"
It does not have a Loaded Chamber Indicator and does not have a Magazine Disconnect Safety.

OP: hope you enjoy the Elite 03 version! That polishing is nice.

I recently acquired a used K9 in good shape, you are going to love it. The extra weight makes the felt recoil almost nothing.
