  • Night Sights worth the cash!!??

I'm on the cusp of buying Trijicon Night Sights for my CW9 (both front and rear) but I have this nagging thought that I don't actually need to spend the money on them. Any advice? Any other sights I should consider?

I have 'em on my G26, and they are fantastic. I would think it's a personal preference. Will these sights be on your bedside gun? If so, might be worth the cost. If not, I'm guessing you won't need them. Touch decision. Good luck.

Thanks Yogi 117. I'd be using them on my EDC gun. I have a 12ga at my bedside. I have noticed that the factory Kahr sights have a gap between the blade of the front sight and the notch of the rear sight when acquiring a sight picture. This allow the front sight to "float" in the notch of the rear sight. I obviously don't like this. Does the Night Sight have the same problem?

Not on my G26, the front sight fits the rear sight perfectly...no floating! Might behoove you to research other sights for your Kahr. I'm just not familiar with the CW9 sights to give you advice on others that might work. With the 12 gauge by your bed, probably don't really need the night sights on your Kahr. Ah, decisions...decisions! Good luck.

There are different types of night sights that you can consider. I like 3 dot sights ( 2 back one front ) I guess because my brain lines them up well. However, I DO shoot well with the stock sights on the CM9. So for me the jury is still out on that point but I completekly understand the "floating between the blades" statement.

On the Kahr site there are two types of night sights ( I'm sure there are others to choose
          from on other sites )

The first is similar style as stock but not identical:

The second is identical to the glock night sights that I have

If you don't like the stock sight and are going to change to the 3 dot then IMHO the three dot night sights are a no brainer. In other words you may as well.

If you were to do it just so you have night sights on your EDC the I would tell you that it would come down to your preference.

Lastly if you were going to have it by the bedside there is no question you should do it.
Glocks, Smiths, High Standards, a kimber, a Kahr and a pop that reloads for almost all of em!!!!

+1...the exact sights on my G26 & I love 'em. I agree with scoose, if you're going to change 'em out anyway, I would go this route. You won't be sorry! My G26 is a Gen2 bought in 2002, and sights still shining bright.

I have the Trijicon Front Night sights on both my CW9 and CM9. They are a nice upgrade from the plastic front's used on the C series Kahrs. At the time they were only $30 each so it was cheap to upgrade. And they do of coarse help for knowing where your front sight is in the dark....But IMO the daytime use is not as good as the stock white dot. You only have the small white ring on the N.S.
I Also have lasers on both my Kahrs and IMO they are much more useful and worth the cost vs. Trijicon's

I don't know if you ever had the opportunity to see/use a gun with XS Big Dot 24/7 sights on it, but I have them on my Glock 26 and they are awesome! They help in the day and the night. They are perfect for fast sighting at up close defensive ranges.

              So FYI...
XS is working on making them for the C series Kahrs with no mods necessary and should be done testing them soon??? ...So if I wanted night sights on my CW/CM, I would wait a little for the Big dots and spend my money on much better sights then the regular Trijicon's(The XS Big dots actually use trijicon tubes)

EDIT During my slow typing, You say you don't like a little extra room around the front sight, so I doubt you would like the XS big dots because they dont really bracket the front at all they just use a shallow V for the rear. But like I said they are combat sights and work very well for that purpose.

Thanks for all the input guys! I have considered the XS Big Dot but as mentioned, they don't carry them for Kahr CW/CM yet. It never crossed my mind to just buy a front Trijicon sight blade. That makes a lot of sense as it's less expensive, doesn't require gunsmithing, and would work on the same principle as the XS Big Dot. I just found a YouTube link on how to install the front sight only. Looks super easy.

I have Trijicons front and back on my CM9 as well as my Glock 19. I like them a lot, but had different reasons for going with them. First I prefer a 3 dot sight. Its just what I am used to and can acquire the fastest. The Kahr obviously has post/dot sights from the factory and I just couldn't adapt to them. As far as the Glock, while I did adapt to those sights, they were polymer and since I carry this gun they had to be changed. Since both are carry guns, I thought having common sights would be a good thing.

My opinion; Although the focus is always on the front sight picking up that night sight in a low light emergency situation probably will not happen. If it's too dark to see sights you probably will not have target ID. A good flashlight would be a better trade off. You will have target ID,you will see the outline of your sights, the suspect should be blinded. Practice shooting with a flashlight.

I originally got the Trijicon front sight only for my CM9, to replace that piece of plastic that was on the front of my slide just begging to break off. As I did the installation, I found out how really easily that front sight breaks off. Anyway, once I installed the front, it was apparent the rear was necessary. So, I sent my slide off to Kahr and had a rear Trijicon pressed in. I received my slide back in 5 days, 2nd day air. The sight was installed flawlessly. I was a tad apprehensive because my POA and POI was perfect with the stock sights. However, I did it and POA is POI is 100% once again. I am 100% happy with my decision. If I had to do it again, I'd get both front and rear, at the same time, and be done with it.

My house gun is a Rossi 38 that sits in a special hidey hole. I also put my P380 with trijicons in its pocket holster beside it. A couple of months ago something went crash outside in my front yard followed by alot of yelling and curssing. I grabed my tac light and reached into the hidey for a gun before heading out. Guess wich one I could find the fastest?
Turns out it was the neighbors kid and two buddies, drunk, trying to unload a chouch from a pick-up. I did like having the nite-sites if though I did'nt need them.
                          Have a good one.
I was once asked if I was "a paranoid for carrying my Kahr".
                          "Nope" I said, "just prepared".
" prepared for what" he asked?
                          "more stuff than you are"

I was buying a SIG with night sights as the clerk pointed them out as a nice feature. My comment was that I didn't think they would be much good after the first shot in the dark. He replied "Well, at least they make it easier to find your gun in the dark."

I wouldn't go out of my way to get them, but I wouldn't turn down a gun that has a set.

I have trijicon night sights on my glock 19 which I keep at the bedside. I do not have them on my cm9 or cw45. The other night I picked up my cm9 when it was pitch black and tried to aim. I could not pick up the front sight at all. I just couldn't see it. I would say if you ever see yourself using your gun in the dark, it's going to be very useful.
I've lost my memory, and I can't remember where I put it.
