At that age it does begin to break down a bit, but still has a lot of life left in it. I found it best to experiment with several brands of maiden oil until you find the one that best serves your needs. From then on stay brand loyal. It's a lot less expensive in the long run.
I can't add a thing to whatu said Muggs. very well said.
. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

Jocko, do you have pictures of wear areas on your 32,000 round PM9? Have you been using the same lube all those rounds?

I think CLP is a great all-in-one product, but it is not the best at any one thing.

I clean with a 1/3 mix of ATF, kerosene and mineral oil. Very cheap. It is like a simplified Ed's Red. It gets carbon out of the barrel and anywhere else it is used.

I lube the gun with Mobile 1 Extended Performance 0W-20 oil, I put Lubriplate SFL-0 in the rails'

A blend of 25% Mobil-1 ATF and 75% Mobil-1 10W30 has worked very well for me on all my firearms.

                Why the mix?

Clean up was easier for me with the 25% ATF added. Yes, technically there are more detergents in the 10W30 but the ATF adds a little solvency to the mix that helps a lot. Found this out with my AR a number of years ago. Carbon isn't as big a problem in handguns as it is in semi-auto rifles but it stays wet and lets the carbon wipe right off. If you didn't want to mix I would recommend Mobil-1 10W30 alone. Just my opinion but an engine idling at 700 RPM is working harder than all handguns and 99% of all rifles out there. People like to say that you should only use gun lube on guns but there are no gun lube refineries. Not putting down any other lubes, everyone has their favorite but this is what I've found works best for me.

a few years use with this product- http://www.proshotproducts.com/Zero-...ler_p_618.html
Very slick lube. I did the custom blend but I hate dealing with quarts of product of decades of use. Did that with 1970 break free clp with 2 quarts. never again.
                    All pro-shot products today.

Don't think much of typical conrosion test ether as they are a one off test oil once and done. A gun owner may heat treat the first time but with years of maintaining them the protection level tend to improve. That old breakfree clp now gone never let a firearm rust when I spend 40 years hunting and shooting in sw florida swamp. Wet was a daily thing .

I use this dry lube; doesn't attract lint or dust nor does it stain once dry. Ne'er a problem functioning either.

I live on a boat and CorrosionX is the best damn thing in the WORLD for things that need to be protected from salt air and other corrosive environments. However... I use Kroil for cleaning and penetrating, Mobile One for Oil and Lubriplate SFL-O for grease. You won't get a consensus here or any gun forum. Make your best guess and go for it. But here is the link that got me on my regimen. It is a good start in developing your own prejudices

I thought I had a consensus once, but the doctor said it was just the dry heaves and recommended that I switch to a better brand of scotch.

This! I agree, it's the best I've found for cleaning and lubing. It's the only "CLP" I will ever use - doesn't gum up like most of the others. Plus, I don't have the patience for all this mixing and using different product. I'm just too lazy.

I should clarify. Green synth marine grease for the kidney shaped lower lug, and for the inside top of the slide where the barrel locks. These are the two major wear points while firing, and the high tack extreme pressure rated marine grease film (<---FILM ONLY) works. For the rest, I've been using TW25b which I didn't used to like. What I'm finding with that is it leaves a film behind as it evaporates. That film stays slippery for a long long time. Good stuff for general wear points. Alternately, Break-Free CLP has done me well for a long time too, in low wear areas.
