  • How does a MK9 compare to the PM9

I am very interested in the MK9. Unfortunately it is impossible to find one to rent and shoot. So after spending some quality time with my Walther PPS and a rental Kahr PM9, I decided that I really like the trigger and really I quite enjoy shooting the PM9. However, I do believe I would enjoy shooting the MK9 even more due to the heft. Would I be wrong in making this assumption? Also is it worth buying the 03 Elite or should I just go with the standard MK9? I am eyeing the blemished factory restored MK9 03 Elites on gunbroker and am wondering if I should go with one of them. Let me know what you guys think.

I don't have an MK9 but I do have an MK40. Of the eight Kahrs I have owned, I'll have to say it's my favorite. I usually prefer a lighter weapon over a heavier one, but I shoot the small MK40 better than my PM9 or CM45 and as well as my larger and heavier SIG's and HK's. Mine is not an Elite so I don't really know the difference, but it does have very good night sights. Here's an example at 12 yards.

I have both. I really like them both. The MK9 is a bit more fun to shoot, and some find it a bit less fun to carry. For me, it rides in all my PM9 holsters just fine. I don't really notice the difference.

I couldn't see a reason to pony up for the elite. I did get a blem K9 with night sights. Other than the "B" stamp, there is not a mark on it that I could see as a reason for it to be a blem. I do like the night sights that came on the K9, but those are available in the standard too.

So, get whatever your heart desires. I bet the elites are shiny!

+1...exactly what alfonse said. Tradeoff is weight vs. shootability but truth is the PM9 shoots great and the MK9 carries just fine too. It's personal preference. I personally like the regular MK finish over the Elites.

I recently bought a blemished K9, and would gladly buy a "blemished" Kahr again at the right price. By the way, the MK is very nice, especially if you like the idea of a steel gun, not that there is anything wrong with the PM9.

Nice shooting. I pretty much shoot small guns most of the time, but I don't shoot them as well. I bet the extra weight helps.

Yep. I'm sure the extra weight is the difference. When I carry the MK, I use a belt holster, and cover it with a jacket or untucked shirt.

They both have their places in your collection and I have quoted this before on this forum, I have an MK9 elite with exceptionally nice wood grips from Kahr and a CM9 standard base model:

"One is for SHOW, the MK9, and one is for GO, CC for the CM9."

However I carry both at times, the MK9 with wood shoots the best, shows the best, and is easy to carry with my Garret Silent Thunder holster, appendix style carry, or OWB carry for "show" when needed, around friends, and the Cm9 or your PM9, is for deep concealment when I need "concealed carry". Works for me, get both.

                Pictures on request.

I have an MK9 and CM9. My Mk9 has been a dream shooter for 8yrs. Many thousands of rounds and one defensive pistol course. I would bet my life on it.

My CM9 is a work in progress.

I had an MK9 and my dad has the PM9. Both shoot great and I loved carrying and shooting the MK. Everyone else gave more info and exp than I could.. I would suggest though if carrying with wood grips to test it out for only a day or so. I developed a bad rash for 2 weeks due to an allergic reaction. Wasn't bad but itchy as hell.

I had a PPK/S and sold it due to reliability issue. My MK9 is with me 100% of the time. I do that because of reliability and accuracy.

                          Rented a P9, P40 and K40.
                          Then bought a NIB MK40 Elite 03.
It's 100% reliable, surprisingly accurate and a keeper.
IMHO the Elite option is worth every penny.

The form factor of the MK series is so nice. I don't know of any other options in a solid stainless gun this compact in 9mm or .40.

The Boberg, Rohbaugh, Kimber Solo, & Sig P290 or 938 don't have the solidness that a full stainless gun can offer for me.
