Thinking a CW9 and Whitehat tuck holster

Headed to the range tomorrow for some 9mm and .22lr shooting. While there I hope to pick up a CW9 if the owner still has one in stock. Excited!!

My CC license should be here in the next 30 days and I'm getting myself setup for carrying. I found Whitehat holsters just the other day. They look like good holsters. Would like to hear from others if they've used them, or know someone who has.

I'm unsure of ammo selection. What do the personal defense type ammo offer over something like Winchester white box? I use WWB in my XDM 5.25 and never had a problem. Well one problem, I found a punctured casing with no powder left in it. This is the only bad round I've ever seen. One of the assembly machines got this one pretty good. LOL. But one out of several thousand is pretty good I think.

If you order a whitehat holster, be prepared to wait a good while before you get it. I ordered one going on six weeks ago, and it still hasn't shipped.

WWB is fine ammo for break-in, and range practice with your CW9.
But a FMJ bullet is not a good choice for personal defense. A good hollow point bullet is what you want, to limit over penetration and allow expansion to make a larger wound channel and to put all the energy into the target and not go right through them and possibly harm innocent bystanders.

Purchased the pistol just now. Post a pic in a bit. Put 75 rounds through while I had time. School getting out and time to pick up the kiddos.

Very lovely shooting. No issues. I was worried since I didn't have time to prep and clean. I'll take care of that during Top Shot tonight. LoL.

Congrats on your new CW9! You choose a very good CCW. I have a CW9 and a CM9 and the CW9 is my favorite as far as feel and shootability go. I carry the smaller CM9 more because I like pocket carry, but the CW9 IWB is great and it just feels about perfect in the hand. Mine has never missed a beat.

I would certainly think one would shoot the cw better and also have less issues with the cw due to just more grip to get a hand around. Some of these small ass kahrs for some people with big hands just do not work out good.

I sure do think the P9 would be an ideal 9mm in that awesome dlc finish to. same size as the cw kbut I like that dlc finish if available.

As Far as white hat holster's great company.I purchased a white hat holster for my glock 19 and it is wonderful.Many different colors and designs are available if your into that.I personally went with black on black cowhide with my name embroidered on it.The best part is you can change the kydex scabbards because they are held on with screws insteads of rivets.However that is also a downfall becuase chicago screws strip very easily.I purchased the kydex shell for the cw9 and it does not have the retention that my glock 19 did.So I emailed tony farah who is the owner of white hat holsters.(He is awesome btw) and told him about this and he said that they dont have a training gun for the cw9 they use the p9 instead.So thats why it dosen't have the same retention and click in to the holster.He did send me a new one that was tighter free of charge and free shipping as well and gave me instructions to heat up the kydex shell around the trigger guard and apply a little pressure.

As far as self defense ammo goes I have shot hornady tap 147gr critical defense 115 gr and custom 147gr xtp guard dog 95gr federal 147 gr hyda shok and remington hd 147gr.

I believe in higher gr rounds that travel slower for self defense 135 or 147gr because the having more energy or punch when they hit the intended target and since there heavier they have a faster drop off.And it is still a 9mm so double tap is not an issue.Pretty much right back on target.

Good info here. In my mind I kinda assumed any kind of kydex would need a little massaging to be perfect. Maybe not. I don't have much experience there. So looking forward to placing my order with White Hat tomorrow.

Deano said to expect waiting a while for a holster but from the few forums I'm on it seems many holster makers have a bit of waiting time. No problem. I'm still waiting on the gov't to finish their end of the CCL.

I did the Kahr Prep this evening before Top Shot. Not sure if it was necessary but after racking the slide over 400 times, I lost count after like 150, I did notice junk moving out of the gun. What I mean is I had field stripped the gun, cleaned it up with Q-tips, used lube diagram, then started the rack process. So after what I considered half way I field stripped again and noticed all sorts of small, tiny fibers or shavings or something. They were too small to tell. Also noticed machining oils working their way out. I continued on and broke the gun down at the end.

I finished off by detail cleaning, didn't detail strip, but spraying everything off and cleaning with Hoppes, small nylon brushes, and Q-tips. Lubed lightly again and have been handling the gun for the past several hours. I can't put it down. LOL.

No more material or oils seem to be working their way out. I keep dry firing with snap caps, loading and unloading the mags with snap caps, and I've broke it down two more times with nothing noticeable. I'm gonna like this dude for a long time.

Forgot to come back and post here. I recieved my holster less than two weeks after ordering. I was hapoy. The CW9 fits great and easy to draw from. I have practiced a couple times at the range with the setup. Works great. I, however, need to lose some weight. My lovehandles make wearing the stiff leather a little uncomfortable. About a 6 on 1-10 scale. Losing 20 lbs would do wonders. I'm 5'11" and 225lbs with stocky build. Most people don't think I weigh that much.

Anyway. For the pistol I am loving it. I shoot 300-400 each time out. I don't shoot the hollow points cause of cost. So it's mostly FMJ. I do shoot the one mag that is always loaded with hollow points. Then top it off at the end.

I kinda lost track of round count the last three times out since I didn't post my outings. But I'd be near 1500ish. LoL.

Sunday I shot 300 straight without much pausing. Only to reload the three magazines I have. The grip serrations started wearing on the web of my hand...at the base of the thumb. No biggie though cause normally I change up between the CW9 and the XDM 5.25 9MM.

Also on Sunday I shot 600 throught the XDM. That thing is running like butter with almost 6500 rounds through it.

I would def consider purchasing the flush metal base plates for your magazines. They wont be completely flush but will print much less than the plastic one that comes with the cw. I have a whitehat holster for mine and the fit isnt what it should be. I also have a Silent thunder IWB from Garrett Industries and in my opinion is a much better holster.

Haven't been out to shoot the past three weeks. Have been waiting on a trigger kit for my XDM 5.25. The trigger kit was backordered...bummer. But it's now enroute and can't wait to get back out there. The XDM is over 7200 rounds and my CW9 is past 2000 rounds without issue.

I love shooting the CW9. Not sure why. Rapid fire from 7yds in is scary accurate. The XDM even more so but I won't be carrying it so doesn't really matter...unless it's home defense situation. The XDM is easier to access when things are put away at home. My CW9 continues to run flawless, but..

Last time out I had a weird deal with both pistols. Both of them had a fail to feed during a string of fire one time. Several bangs and then nothing. Tilt the pistol up and see bullet pointed straight up. Drop mag, see clear chamber, insert another mag and shoot away. Each pistol did this only one time and I was able to clear within seconds. Actually it was fast enough that my buddy didn't realize it was a malfunction. He thought I was just reacquiring my sight. Made me feel pretty good about that. LOL.

The whitehat holster is pretty awesome too. But with my slightly overweight shape(5'11" @ 220lbs & sorta muscular) I'm not quite 100% comfortable. So this morning I ordered the N82 pro holster. I'm hoping the soft backing will move with me more. The stiff leather from the Whitehat holster makes me uncomfortable when sitting. That's it. Walking and moving around in the garage seems really great.

I know the Whitehat holster will probably last 20-30 years but for now I'm looking for more comfort so the soft back N82 is the plan.
