  • Jammed slide

I have a new CW45 with approximately 600 rounds through it, with no issues, until yesterday. I was unloading the gun and found that the slide cannot be racked more than 1/4".

After each of three sessions at the range, I field stripped the gun, thoroughly cleaned, and lightly oiled it. After reassembling the gun each time, I racked the slid several times to be sure it was correctly assembled. I have loaded and unloaded it numerous times since I have owned it and never had any issue. The only thing different this time is that I loaded it with Hornady Critical Defense ammo, the first time I have had that ammo in it.

    Any ideas?

In the first 1/4" of slide travel the barrel is supposed to cam down and unlock from the slide. Is yours doing that?

Only about 1/16", before it feels as if it hits something internally.

I am wondering if u might have a round stuckin the chamber, due to oal BEING TO LONG, THAT WILL FREEZE UP A SLIDE BIG TIME
. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

Maybe a stupid question, but mag in or mag out. My CW40 will lock up at about 1/4" with Critical Defense with the mag in. Drop the mag and smooth as butter. I haven't shot any of the CD through it yet so I hope it's just hand cycling that is the problem.

Measure the CD against your other rounds. As stated the CD could be too long.

my thoughts are u have a round that is lodged in the rifleing of the barrel and that is why the slide will not move, some put a dowell down the barrel and tap the round out, sounds dangerous but shoudl be OK to, some take a dowell and on the top back portion of the breach, they drive the slide backward. If a round is for some reason out of spec in length it will lodge in the rifleing and there fore not let th slide retract backwards, remmeber it loaded that round with some real slide force, so it is stuck like u are seeing now. j ust my wo cents on this but I see nothing else that could be doing this. Other than a part breaking inside the gun that we cannot see or know. Just sayin

I suspect this is what's happened. If the slide will go completely into battery, it's easier and safer to just shoot it out. If that's not an option or the slide will not go completely into battery, trying grasping the slide overhand (thumb towards the rear of the pistol), then with the muzzle pointed in a safe direction, strike the grip of the pistol with the web of your other hand (like you were going to grasp the grip). Here, I just found a video showing what I was trying to explain:

I put a dowel or a cleaning rod in a vise or up against something solid if your at a range and down the barrel.

While doing exactly what GB just said I tap or push against the dowel.

The bullet is what's jamming it up, so pushing the bullet back while trying to rack the slide gets it done.

I'd then take a fresh round and with the barrel out of the gun, drop it down in the chamber and push with a finger or thumb. Then flip the barrel over and see if the round drops out. If it don't, the bullet is too far out.

                          If it were mine, and:
Since the striker is prevented from sticking out of the breach face by the striker block until the trigger is fully pushed back:
First I'd do as jocko suggests and lightly hit a dowel to try to dislodge the round. But I'd first try to lock the slide back as much as possible, or try to wedge something in between the slide and barrel hood so that as I hit the bullet nose the base isn't pushing against the breach face.
If that doesn't work, if it were me I'd fire it. Since you jacked a round in, I assume the gun is partially cocked.
I don't think your gonna blow anything up, or bulge the barrel because of the bullet nose lodged against the rifling. A .45 only generates about 18,500 psi. I've loaded lots of .45s in match grade 1911 barrels with the bullet nose up against the rifling (no lede)

                          That's what I would do

no doubt if the slide is in full battery JUST FIRE THE FOKKER.

This also happened to my CW45 when I was trying to use my reloads (that work fine in my Glock 30 and 1911s)

I just tapped the slide rearward with a dowel and rubber mallet. It was really jammed in there.
