  • Kahr P380 – The Best Tiny Pocket 380

Everyone, I though this was a very well done review that portrays the P380 in a positive light, saying how many owners (who probably never joined our forum) they have talked to who trust and carry the gun daily. They give some precautions regarding ammo, and say the wrong ammo might be the cause of some of the complaints that are seen. Also, there is a link to a review on the CM9.

Kahr P380 – The Best Tiny Pocket 380 The best gun to have in a gunfight is the one you chose to take with you that day. This is why small pistols are so popular. They are light and pocketable, so people actually carry them. But small pistols are also something of a conundrum. Smaller and lighter is better for concealed carry, but small guns means small parts, and small parts break easier, and they can be cantankerous when it comes to accuracy and reliability. There is no perfect small pistol, but after beating up one of the worst of the bunch recently, we thought it probably a good idea to review one of the best of the bunch, the Kahr P380, MSRP $649. The gun is somewhat ammunition sensitive, as most small guns are, but the P380 is built to the standards of a full size pistol, and performs as such. Made in the USA in Worcester, MA, the Kahr small pistols are chosen by more law enforcement and security personal than another brand of pistol, and the P380 is the smallest of the bunch. If you were scared away from small pistols by our horrendous Diamondback review, don’t be afraid. Legions of Kahr owners and fans unanimously say that Kahr pistols can’t be beat. There are some details you need to know though, so read on. ( Click Here to Read More )
    Very interesting...

    Yea ....
I'm adding one to my Kahr collection. I pick it up later today or tomorrow. I used to have a P238 Sig, but sold it because weight and size were near identical to my PM9.

But I couldn't get away from the fact that there are times when I need a smaller micro carry and I looked at getting another P238 .... but the P380 has sorted out there birthing pains and is significantly smaller and lighter. AND it is built like a Kahr. Looking forward to it!

My P380 is never out of arms reach. Most often it's in my right front pocket.

I my little mind, when the P380 is right, THERE IS NO BETTER 380 ON THE MARKET.It can do it all, accurate, light, small, super trigger system, xs big dot sights available, all stainless. polygonal barrel;.
. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

For the couple of months that mine worked I loved it. Unfortunately, the last time I sent it back to be worked on Kahr sent it back unusable. I am going to send it back soon but I will not be able to carry it for 2 years due to being able to only have 2 guns on my license and it was not functional when it was time to qualify. So my PM9 and G23 are the only ones I can carry for the next 2 years. I will miss the p380, nothing fits in the pocket like it did.

gm...why would send it "back" unusable? they couldn't fix it? why didn't they replace it? I had my 380 for a day and it locked up...sent it back last week...I loved the way it shot and felt...while it worked for 49 rounds..I hope to get it back fixed

Update to my post below (or above depending on your orientation) .....

went to pick my new P380 up and I rejected it. The trigger was awkward and stiff. It had about 3/8" of take up before engaging the cocking cam to action. The break was almost at the back of the trigger guard. Slide action was gritty and the polymer rails looked like they had been chewed on. I could have taken it and sent it in and all ... but I don't really need another project gun right now.

But, I have handled and shot great ones so I'm still in the market ... and still a fan.

When I got it back I took it to the range and had so many light strikes failures to feed and failure to return to battery on 50 rounds that i just shook my head and put it back in the case. Don't know how they found it acceptable to send back like that but they did. I could not get through even 1 magazine without some kind of failure. It came back in much worse shape than I sent it in with. I will send it back one more time. If they can't fix it I will get rid of it. Don't know how because I could not sale it to anyone in the condition it is in.

Dang! I wouldn't give up and I wouldn't wait to get it working. Talk with Kahr Customer Service and get it fixed. It sucks to have an experience like that and I've had more than my share, but between trips to Kahr and me repairing, tweaking and installing their replacement parts, all of mine are working satisfactorily now. It's a good thing it's one of my hobbies... not the cheapest, for sure!

does "satisfactory" mean perfect..gota trust it with your life...a $600 gun shouldn't take multiple trips and you working on it too and the end result is satisfactory?...for those of us who don't have "smith" skills..that would mean more trips back to mother to fix it..how many chances would you/should they have to get it perfect? I feel your pain.

What are you going to do... hang onto a gun that doesn't work... maybe peddle it and pass along the trouble to someone else?

Get it working and sell it with caveats to the buyer... or find a buyer who wants to take on a project at a good discount, with full knowledge of the gun's history.

Or do what some of us have done and get it working properly. Between Kahr customer service and my own work, all of mine are reliable and I carry MY four polymer Kahrs without any reservations... after thorough testing at the range.

MY Kahrs have been worth the extra trouble because they are the compact, full-featured pistols I want for concealed carry and home defense.

Most people probably have no problems and many don't shoot them that much or come here to complain. We see a small percentage of owners here and a lot just come to find out how to properly care for and use their new pistols... and some do come to share their good experiences, not just problems or worries about stuff they've heard on the 'Net or fanboys of other brands, who live to belittle other brands and show how "smart or superior" they are, having chosen their particular brand.

There are a lot of good gun brands out there and I don't try to malign them. I chose Kahrs for CC because they were developed for CC using new designs and they fill my needs better than any others that I've seen.

My PM9 has been flawless and an excellent gun. The p380 for the two months it seemed to work with minimum problems was the best shooting and feeling 380 I have ever shoot! Shoots like a much larger gun.

And I think most of the new ones are fine. I just got unlucky. I wish I could give Kahr 100.00 and my 380 for one of the new ones. I am busier than I have ever been and just don't have extra time for this right now.
