  • Kahr P9 Experience

    I didn't know there was a section for P series. I posted this in general discussion:

    I purchased a Kahr P9 after extensive research for the reasons many decide to go with one. At the time it seemed to be the perfect choice. It is a sweet looking gun, with good ergonomics, a good trigger, it shoots well, and is accurate.

    The Kahr P9 was purchased approximately 18 months ago. I have had numerous problems with this gun since I have owned it, i.e., FTFs, FTE's, slide issues and most recently the magazine now falls out when shooting it. I keep a round count on all of my weapons, and this handgun has 1150 rounds through it. It is once again back at the factory.

    I have several other handguns and shoot quite a bit - about 50,000 rounds per year. I have had more problems with my Kahr than with all of my other handguns combined.

    I have little to no confidence in the product. After further research I recently purchased a Walther PPS which I now use instead of the P9 for the role with which it was intended.

    When the Kahr gets back from the factory I am not sure what I am going to do with it. I was actually more curious about what the factory would say again versus hopeful about getting this issue resolved. If it does continue to malfunction when it gets back I will have it destroyed. I would not want to sell this product or give it to someone where the possibility of non-performance exists when they are in harms way.

    Anyhow, I was wondering if there are any others out there who have P9's who have had similar experience(s). I would be loathe to ever purchase a Kahr again or recommend it to anyone.

      If you fire 50k rounds a year, you can well afford to dump one pistol you think is a lemon. Give it to Short Bus or to me or whoever, but don't be a martyr and destroy it. If it truly is a lemon, I'm sure Short Bus or myself are smart enough to figure that out for ourselves.

        Come on boys, begging is so unmanly and beneath us here.

        The bottom line is Kahr will make the gun right. End of story. Just a matter of patience. They will make it right without question.

        Now the issue is confidence. It isn't right, can I ever trust this gun to be right. Only a bunch of new bonding and trial time can answer that.

        It may take another trip back or 5 trips back but Kahr WILL make it right.

              I beg to differ, Bawanna, I wasn't begging ... I was just trying to talk him out of feeling the need to demolish it.

                    I've missed my flawless 1000+ round CW9 ever since I traded it for a CM9. I'll take your P9 if you don't want it and if it malfunctions I've been warned. I'll even pay shipping.

                    Honestly Kahr will make it right.
                    The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

                      My experience with Kahr this time has been a 180 from the last two trips the P9 took to the factory. For whatever reason, perhaps all of the correspondence I enclosed, they did the following:

                      1. Called me as soon as they received the gun;
                      2. Called me with an update, stating they experienced the same problems I did and would correct them;
                      3. Sent the gun back with a report stating they:

                      a. Reworked barrel;
                      b. Replaced magazine;
                      c. Replaced magazine catch
                      d. Test fired and worked fine with no recurrence of problems initially stated.

                      There was also an enclosed letter from Director of Customer Service requesting input (survey) and asking me to let them know how the gun works.

                      I have not yet taken it to the range, that will happen tomorrow. I do admit that the slide / action seems to be significantly smoother.

                      I plan on firing 100 rounds through it tomorrow.

                        P9 Problems

                        I hope Kahr was able to fix the problems. I don't have a P9, but do own a CW9. It is a very versatile carry pistol. I have pocket holsters, paddle holsters, and IWB CTAC holsters. Your P9 could easily become your most used pistol. Please give follow up reports on your use of the P9.

                          I went to the range and put 50 rounds through it. Not one FTF, FTE or magazine falling off. During my next trip to the range I will put another 50 through it but my sense is the results will be the same since prior to this I had never fired 50 consecutive rounds without a problem.

                          Unless something untoward happens I think the reliability issue has been resolved. The magazine issue is one thing, it is well documented and easily fixed. The issue of the FTF's and FTE's was resolved, in my opinion, in the "reworking barrel" statement they sent back with their report.

                          yqtszhj stated "Honestly Kahr will make it right". He (assumption) called it correctly.

                          As much as I was critical of the product and the service I give them credit and their due for making it right. i will also circle back with their Director of Customer Service and thank him for his attention to this matter.

                          If there are any P9 owners out there who have had similar problems I trust this thread has been helpful and will enable you to come to the same resolution.

                            P9 Problems

                            Very happy to hear you Kahr P9 is working as it should. If you decide to carry this pistol you will be well served.

                              I'm happy with your newly-repaired pistol and hope that it will become reliable enough for you to carry it. Most of my Kahrs have needed some help... mine and/or the factory, but I love them all and carry them all as needed with respect to size and power/capacity... except the all-steel one... just too heavy!
