Feeling some love for my CW45

I usually don't take my CW45 to the indoor range anymore. It proved quite a while back to be almost boringly accurate, so I mostly shoot it in the desert. There, I'll run some defense loads through it to check reliability (can't remember the last time I've had a stoppage with it ), then I like to plink at reactive targets using hardball. Well, today I was carrying it when I went to the indoor range, so I thought I'd just put a magazine worth of Gold Dots on paper with it. Darn gun never disappoints:

The CW45 has been on my very long desire list for quite a spell too. That one of your is a shooter without question. I suspect the driver is probably a bit more talented than I as well, I always have to remember that part too.

I was worried a year or two ago when I sent mine back for the short front rail problem because it ran so good but, Im happy to say I had nothing to fear as it still runs flawlessly.

The CW45 has been on my very long desire list for quite a spell too. That one of your is a shooter without question. I suspect the driver is probably a bit more talented than I as well, I always have to remember that part too.

Bad guys: We have a lot of law enforcement in the area: city/town police departments, reservation police, sheriff's office, Border Patrol, ICE, Homeland Security, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service agents, military police, BLM rangers, AZ Fish & Game wardens, Railroad police, ATF, and DPS troopers. They run multi-department task forces in several areas. I've been stopped by them a couple of times. Shoot , I even got a "fix it" ticket a couple of weeks ago. The wife and I put a new in-tank fuel pump into our Grand Cherokee and went to put some gas in it. On the way to the gas station, I thought the headlights looked dim, so when we got there I checked and the driver's side was out. Left the station, headed home and hadn't gone a half of a mile before a deputy passed us going the opposite direction...he immediately executed a u-turn to get behind us. I pulled over before he caught up with us

I was also worried about my CW45 when I sent it back for the rail issue, but the gun returned just as accurate and reliable as when it left. I did notice that the old slide and barrel sat a little forward on the new frame, but that didn't affect the pistol's performance. However, I later picked up an entire CW45 top end for about the cost of the ejector and striker. I swapped the barrel from that top end with my old barrel and the slide sat flush with the rear of the frame. If accuracy was affected I haven't noticed it and it hasn't missed a bit reliability wise.

Night sights and fiber optic sights are available from Dawson Precision.
Kahr offers night sights, a fiber optic front sight, and the Meprolight FT Bullseye Fiber & Tritium Night sight
I have Trijicon night sights on my CW45:

I had read that you couldnt replace sights on the CW45, I will take another look at it now, got a new colt defender and I dont like the weight or width.

he CW Series have conventional rifling instead of match grade polygonal rifling; the CW Series have a MIM (metal-injection-molded) slide stop lever instead of a machined slide stop lever; the CW Series cannot be retrofitted with night sights because the slide does not have a front dovetail cut; the CW Series slide have fewer machining operations; and the CW Series have simple engraving on the slide instead of rollmarking; and the CW Series are shipped with one magazine instead of two.UPC: 602686107310

They are correct that the CW series does not have a front dovetail, but they are NOT correct when they they state " the CW Series cannot be retrofitted with night sights"

The OEM "CW" series front sight is held on by two plastic posts. Replacement FO and night front sights have two metal posts. On the Dawson sights these posts are flared/staked to hold the sight on. The Trijicon sight uses two screws to hold the sight on.

It's also not terribly expensive to have a front dovetail cut on a CW series slide

It doesn't have conventional dovetailed sights on the front but as Greg mentioned there are options to replace it in the factory configuration.

It's actually in my opinion easier to replace the front sights than with a dovetail. No vise or hammers or sight pushers needed.

You also can always have a dovetail cut if you have a machinist or gunsmith around.

Sorry, I've no recommendations for a shop as I haven't any personal experience with any I would recommend.

The front sight on the CW45 is DIY friendly as a replacement option. I've found the Trijicon sight works with the OEM rear sight. I imagine a sight of similar height from Dawson would work as well.

The front sight just snaps off (poke out what remains of the posts):

If you want to go DIY with an after-market rear sight, getting the OEM sight off can be little challenging, but can be done with a punch, hammer, and solid vise. The new sight will probably require fitting with a file, sand paper, or stones.


I'm not a fan of paint over stainless, as I don't like how it wears. I think for maximum durability paint is best done over fresh parkerizing. Others may disagree, so it would be good to hear their input here.
