New CW9 works well

Picked up a new CW9 a few weeks ago. So far, I've been to the indoor range 3 times, and fired 150 rounds (50 WWB 115 FMJ, 50 CCI Blazer 115 FMJ, 50 Armscor 124 FMJ). Had one jam on round 5, and since then it has been good. I think it is broken in enough, so I am keeping it loaded with WWB, until I get a change to shoot some Federal 9BP JHP that I have on hand and get confident with it. At seven yards nearly all of the holes are within the two outlined areas on the TQ-19E law enforcement targets that the range provides. I don't do much better with my Ruger Mk III 22/45, so this CW9 is plenty accurate shooting two handed. Also, it isn't hard to clean, and works well with just CLP for cleaning and lube. Non-chlorinated brake part cleaner does a good job of blasting out the clean out hole in the slide. Now I need to get a spare magazine, and practice carrying it IWB.

I traded my Taurus 709 last weekend for a Kahr CW9 and went to my local indoor range Wednesday and shot about 130 rounds.

I seriously considered a Taurus 709, but was concerned about what I read at the Taurus Armed forum. Seemed like too many folks were saying they had problems with the sights causing them to hit low, and reliability problems leading to sending the handgun back to Miami for repair. So far, I am satisfied with my CW9 purchase.

I had to learn to keep my thumbs up while shooting. Tucking them down and crossing them caused me to depress the magazine release button sometimes while shooting. And I need to work on shooting faster without pulling shots.

yeah i got my cw9 about 3 weeks ago and i've only put 150 through mine so far. I've had no problems what so ever. The biggest problem is my shooting.

Ok, join the kahr club, as that is not IMO the easiest gun to master. The looooong trigger is the thing that keeps you coming back to the range. It is there by design but trust me I am a very poor pM9 shooter after all this time yet, but I truly love to shoot thegun andI accept it for what it is ,,, a close up personal defense gun that will save your life.

I don't shoot 2" groups at 7 yards but I can keep um all in the standard FBI "Q" silhouette target at 10 yards and under and that is good enough for me. You willget alot better though,once you and the gun mate up and work together, Kahrs are just not the easiest guns to shoot. The finest triger system moneycan buy but not target triggers..

Snap caps and dry firing will help you out with the trigger pull. Plus it's way cheaper than the number of live rounds that you would have to buy to get to the same number of trigger pulls. (But not as much fun)

nothing like snap caps but also nothing like hearing the "bang" thing either. there is a mental difference in practiceing with snap caps over the "bang" thing. to many people also anticipate the "bang" thing where as snap caps doesn't produce that feeling.

Practice your stance and look in the mirror to see what if going on. I practice daily with my sp101 before I got my kahr, it is all DA and my stance made all the difference in the world. My groups are tight after 500 rounds at 25Ft. in a 3" circle. Also ,go to www.reloadbench.com and print off this target. It will help you concentrate and focus more on what you doing wrong.

Yes, but once you do, you become a better shooter and it's as fast as any DAO out.

Yes, I need to find the 9mm snap caps in my range bag and practice more.

we just bought a 709 slim from my wife to try out, I wish they made a cw9 with an external safety because she insists on a thumb safety.

no cw but they do make a PM9 with a thumb safety.

I've dry-fired my CW40 too many times to even guesstimate how many. At first I was trying to stage the trigger to realign the sites before the trigger break, but that trigger is so smooth it's really hard for me to do, so I changed to just one firm squeeze and let the trigger break when it wants too. It doesn't give me single action accuracy, but 95 percent of my shots end up in the 7 ring or better at 7-10 yards on a B-27 sillouette target. I'm comfortable with that.

I've tried both ways. Staging and pull through. Pull through works the best for me on both the CW9 and the SP 101. I actually shoot better with the SP 101 in DA. Probably because after a short time, the sights seem to wander. So with the CW9 and the SP 101, its up, acquire sight/target and shoot. I mean, these are not bullseye pistols! In a whoa situation, its gonna happen fast.

jocko - the bang is the most important part. But sometimes you got to just practice with holding the gun still and working the trigger. Especially since SWMBO won't let me fire the guns off in the house.
