    Hey Wynn!

Pay no attention to all the noise. We will be delighted to see the results of your efforts whenever you are ready.

It's easy to lose sight of the other obligations in our lives when a new toy arrives.

You are to be commended for behaving like more of an adult than most of us can.

    All the best,

Didn't notice... no biggy... trying to slug through this mess of pictures slung all over my computer. I'm going to upload the flashes to Photobucket now. What a PITA!

When I upload from my camera to the PC, it throws them into My Documents or My Pictures and I found all kinds of stuff from previous fun and was trying to put it in some order... someplace.

Well, let me slog away here. I'll post a link to the album on Photobucket. I can only do 5 photos at a time here and that takes so long!

          I fired 5 kinds of .40 S&W ammo... 3 FMJ Flat-Nosed 180-grain:

50 rounds Winchester Value Pack 100
          100 MFS/Fiocchi (made in USA)
50 Federal Champion (no video with two attempts... #1 camera off, then #2 ran out of memory on card!).

          And two defensive:

          35 of 100 Remington UMC 180-gr JHP
          and
          13 of 20 Winchester PDX1 165-gr Bonded JHP.

That's 248 rounds total. There were no misfires, but after the first round of 6 mags were fired, there were numerous failures to feed and failures to go into battery, and at least one premature slide locked back.

While I try to figure out some order, here's the Photbucket Album of the Magna-Ported P40 firing:

Okay. The brightest seems to have been the Remington UMC JHP's:

            Then maybe the MFS/Fiocchi

You really don't see all of that flash when shooting!

              The MFS/Fiocchi:

The one that had the least flash was the Winchester PDX1 165-gr Bonded JHP:

So far, this seems the best defense round... out of two... the Speer Gold Dot 165-gr Bonded JHPs were waiting on my doorstep when I got back from the range. I left around 3PM so I didn't miss them by much!

I left half of the 100-round boxes behind, so I thought I had shot a bunch more!

I'll show a few targets and discuss the problems I saw later. It was fun!

Targets... the first mag was supposed to be on camera... it was on and the viewer was showing the video, but I must have missed the record part! The back was against the wall and I took it down and placed the tripod on the "table". I could at least see the back and see if the video and record light were on.

                    The first mag was okay...

Tgt five:Rapid fire... going nuts with 42 rounds of MFS/Fiocchi 180-gr FMJ FN

                    More later... got to sleep!

                        Duuuude,

Great photos. How is the recoil? Did the porting make a dif. Those flames do look cool though.

Have the ftf's and ftrtb been worked out? After approx 600 rnds I replaced my recoil spring and the ftrtb went away.

The recoil was about what I get with my K9... certainly reduced. You don't SEE the flames or flashes. I'm shooting at 30 frames a second and once in a while the flash is totally between frames... just not on the video.

I went through 6 mags and on the second round, I started having failures to feed. I think the feed ramp got too dirty. I cleaned it and then still had problems. I want to get the DLT (Dremel Like Tool) out and polish the ramp a bit and the mouth of the chamber as well.

I started having a lot of failures to go into battery with the round c0cked in the chamber at about 45°. I could just pull the slide back a tiny bit and then it would chamber. I think some polishing would help with that.

I did have some rounds come to rest against the feed ramp, too. And I had AT LEAST one premature slide lock back. Some of my failures to feed were that... the top cartridge sitting in the mag with the slide locked back.

When I first took the gun apart to inspect it, I saw that the slide lock spring was bent inward. The screw and washer were tight, but the free end of the spring was bent and pushed into the pin hole. I bent it straight and made sure that the free end was coming to rest in the little notch in the inner shelf of the slide lock. I also checked that while I was having problems. That spring may need tweaking or replacing. I have a spare from my PM45 and may see if that fits. This pistol seems to need a little more care while inserting the slide lock.

I also want to take the magazines apart and smooth those after cleaning them well inside... maybe a little sanding of the follower, especially on the magazine catch corner... right front where the slot that engages the catch.

The pistol was fun to shoot and shoots accurately, though I don't!

shots look good. Hope you will have pics of the ramp/chamber polish if you think it will show a dif before and after. The ramp on my P40 is very polished already. Can it be better?

I don't know about yours, but if I were having problems, I would polish as needed.

I polished mine a little bit, along with the mouth of the chamber, the barrel hood, the striker, the underside of the slide... bevel of "stripper". I wasn't looking for a mirror finish, just a little smoothing. Here's the dirty slide and the bevel... leading edge of "stripper" part of the slide.

I did find some metal shavings and debris in the striker channel AFTER spraying the brake cleaner, so cleaning that thing out at first is a good thing to do. I'll show a picture of that. The stuff is lying on a 1/4" lined notebook page.

I took all of the mags apart, cleaned tubes & springs, sanded followers(bottom corners mag catch side, and exposed underside of the metal "pin" actuator that was catching on the mag tube), and checked for ejection with mag release button. I wound up pulling the mag catch and polishing it just a tad on the part that rubs the magazines. I thought about "scalloping" that part but will wait and see how the gun works first. I wouldn't touch the catch/ledge part.

I took some pictures of the feed ramp and chamber but most sucked... hard to focus on what I want in AUTO mode.

I couldn't really see any great difference in the before and after polishing.

I noticed that the bevel on the stripper wasn't big, but I only touched it a bit with the polish wheel.

I also noticed that there was no "notch" in the front recoil spring retaining wall between it and where the barrel goes, but there was no abrasion there after around 350 rounds, so I 'll just leave it alone for now. When I checked my '98 K9, it had no notch, but did have abrasion there, so I gave it some notch. With the barrel movement up and down, some of these pistols need some relief there so the spring and guide rod don't bang into that divider area and throw off cycling/timing during firing.

I'll post a bit more for now, but I need to get to bed soon!

Here's the barrel after 248 rounds, before cleaning:

Here's the debris in the striker tunnel AFTER running a Q-tip in and out:

I thought it was stuck, but it came out easily with the tip of my smallest jeweler's screwdriver.

Here's the ramp after a little polishing:

Most of this stuff cleaned up fine... just a little stain near the front left.

I had one good pinch while shooting, so I added an O-ring to the offending magazine.

I'm just going through the pictures from cleaning and polishing. Here's the album link on PB:
