  • Speaking on behalf of myself and myself only. Absolutely carry chambered with or without the safety.

The long trigger pull is a nice safety feature, your not gonna do a full pull without knowing it. There's a drop safety so no worries about dropping it.

Many who carry auto's with double action long type pulls even with safeties leave them off. I personally discourage this as you may inadvertently put the safety on and if you needed it quick you'd get nothing.

This was especially true when we carried Beretta's. Our last 40 cal Beretta's had decock only so you could drop the hammer but the gun went right back into fire mode. I liked those just fine.

Yes, i do! it makes much more sense to always carry with a round chambered. a gun designed for carry in a proper holster is fine without a safety "switch", but if that switch would make you more comfortable, then you should get one with that feature and get used to using it. Having that "switch" is still no replacement for following all the basic rules for safely handling a firearm. I have both, and while i prefer to carry my pm9 with the switch, i still occasionally carry my glock (ALWAYS chambered) with no switch.

      • Its funny but Glock was actually instrumental in curing me of my reservations about c0cked and locked 1911 carry. I never had an issue with a Glock.
A detective here broke it down in black and white.

What do you do to fire a Glock. You just pull the trigger. What do you do not to fire a Glock. Don't pull the trigger!

Welcome to the 1911 safe action pistol. With the 1911 you can touch the trigger cause it has a thumb safety and a grip safety. The Glock has neither.

Don't pull the trigger and neither will fire. Even with the thumb safety off you still have to grip a 1911 to make it go bang. Not so with the Austrian wonder machine.

Since that day I've have no reservations about my 1911 carry and I haven't carried my Glock much since. I still like it but like any other gun it commands proper respect and care.

        Weird huh?

          Bawanna,

When i was forced to carry the Beretta 92F I carried with safety on. The safety could inadvertantly be flicked on in the holster during patrol duties. So to eliminate that possibility I flicked the lever up during the draw with my right thumb.Every time.
Easy to do with the 92F. Eliminated the is it or isn't it question. This was the way LASD was trained. Of course one was up the pipe!
