  • Hogue Grip vs Talon Grips

I love my new CM9 but the texture on the front and back of the factory grip is too sharp for my taste. I wanted something to cover it yet still give a secure purchase. I saw good reviews on the Hogue Handall Jr so I ordered one. I figured for $8 is was worth a try. When I put it on the gun and just held it around the house I thought I would like it. But after actually shooting with it on, I'm not so sure about it. The built-in finger groove and the palm swells on the sides add up to a fair amount of extra rubber. When I took it shooting it felt kind of squishy. It didn't move on the gun, but it felt like it was shifting slightly under pressure.
So now, I have decided to try Talon Grips (rubber) on the Kahr. Seems like it should cover the sharp areas without adding bulk. Has anyone here ever tried either/both of these? What we're your thoughts on them?

I have the Hogue mounted upside down on my PM9 and it stays put. I also have a Shield with rubberized Talons installed. The Hogues do need slight re-positioning from time to time. Overall I think the Talons are a great product. I have heard the sandpaper version are very abrasive on the hands as well as clothing. Try a set for $15. I think I will buy a set for my Kahr.

I don't own a set but I like the looks of the Qwik Grip the best of all of them. People who own them have nothing but good to say about them too.

They just look clean and meant to be there to me.

The knuckle hitting the slide or the frame. My thumbs don't hardly touch the gun. I did the woodburner stipple job on mine to tone down the grip surface. Had an innertube on for quite awhile. I like the stipple better.

We need to get you a camera so we can see some of this stuff. I'm just curious and inquisitive ya know?

Yeah, I have heard that too. I carry IWB so those wouldn't be very comfortable for me. I think the rubber should be better. I'm anxious to get 'em and try them out.

+1 . . . Very comfortable, even while shooting the dreaded "fotays" pictured below.

It would be so nice if something made sense for a change.

Look forward to it. Sometimes if we see the issue we can offer some help. Pictures worth 162 words and all that.

pearce grips are the best... yes i hear that you end up with a cw9 and 1/2inch less of barrel... but the pearce grip is very nice lookin and very comfortable...

i have the 7rd extended grip that came with mk9... terrible design by kahr, looks ugly and grip needs the whole plastic filled in on the mag instead of that zig line desgin (very uncomfortable)... pearce is the way to go...

I have a set of Traction Grips. Haven't put them on, yet. But I got some hockey tape, which is woven cloth on the outside. It is just the right width to cover the cheese graters. So I cut two strips of it sized to cover the front and back graters. Pressed down, you can still see the bumps, but they don't bite anymore. The color of it perfectly matches the frame, so it is hard to see it is even there.

I have been using a Qwik-Grip size 3 on my CM9, and it is certainly nice. I love the sure grip you get from real leather. I can grab my gun there with just my fingertips and I have never dropped it. It doesn't have finger grooves or palm swells, so the additional width is minimal. The slight additional width front to back is a plus, IMO. In fact, I am thinking about shaping something up that can go underneath it to add onto the backstrap for some increase in trigger finger reach. It moves very slightly and might need a tiny adjustment after a range trip. I haven't tried the hairspray trick to make it stay put, yet. It is certainly comfortable and fits the PM/CM guns perfectly.

That said, the extra width and tackiness of the rubber can be noticeable against your side in some holsters. I am going to try the Traction Grips on the sides, keeping the hockey tape on the front and back, and see if I can get that sure handling of rubber without the extra width and maybe with less tackiness. I'll let y'all know how it turns out. Heck, I can always put the Qwik-Grip back on if I don't like the change, and the Traction Grips will probably help keep it in place.

I have found that a small piece of bicycle inner tube works the best for me on my PM9.

It gives just the right amnount of "traction" if you will for a secure grip on the little PM9 frame.

Well, I plan on using it when I get around to it. Funny, I used to have a ROUND METAL pin that said:

                              A
                              ROUND
                              TUIT

But now I can't find it and I can't seem to... get around... to looking for it.
                              Very interesting...
