Taken a cm9 to fighting pistol course.

So I'm getting ready to go to a fighting pistal class at tactical response. It's a 2 day class with 1000 rounds down range. Do you think the cm9 will hold up. I'm going to get as many mags as I can if anyone wants to sell me some let me know. I also just changed over to frog lube. I'm going to try the class with the cm9 and froglube. I'm not going to clean or lube it till the class is over. I will whip it down after the first night. If it holds up. I think this will be a good test for me and the gun. If you ask why because I fell like train with the gun you carry the most. I'm thinking about mybe 6 mags all in single mag holders. One thing is I'm sure going to be good at mag changes. And loading them

5yrs ago I put my MK9 to a similar test. (All tests were done with WWB 115grn and Federal 115grn brass cased ammo. Inspect all ammo before the range! I found several set-back rounds in the WWB ammo. Federal was perfect.)

One day pistol course, 6 mags (this is where I learned about 8rd mags all suck, and 7rd mags also have issues. 6rd mags, with and without finger rest, were always 100% perfect)

I ran half the day with the MK9, about 200rds, after a problem with my reload mags, I ditched them and stayed with my three 6rd mags. No issues after that.

I ran the rest of the day with my G26, 12+1 IWB and 15rd mags as my reload. It also ran beautifully.

Later I tested the 7 and 8 round mags individually and found the no 8rd mags were reliable in my MK9 and only one 7rd was 100%. I have six, 6rd mags now and all are perfect and I have run a few thousand rounds of speed drills with them, and am confident they will work when I need them too.

(During speed drills/combat drill/SD practice, I grip the gun very tight and and I was pushing the bottom of any extended mag out of battery, causing a FTE or FT go into battery. Faster the drill, more pronounced it was, specifically the 8rd mags. Never an issue with flush-fit mags for the K9 and MK9, and not an issue when casually shooting. It took me along time to figure this out!)

Later I bought a K9 and it runs any 7rd mag all day. It also doesn't like all 8rd mags, so I have ditched 8rd mags forever (or until I buy a T9!)

While I do not doubt the Kahr will stand up to the test I'd be sure to bring a back-up gun (same calilber) just in case. When I did my last training course I took two 1911s. The gun I was running did not fail, but a few in the class did. Another guys Kimber crappped out and he had to finish the class with my old Springfield GI...
If your going to take the time and go through the trouble to take the class, be sure you can finish even if lighting strikes.
And please give a range report of how the CM9 dose.

I've takin pistol classes before and my thoughts are that the gun will perform without issue. That being said you will be changing mags like crazy and that because the Kaurs are double action you'll have some accuracy issues at the longer distances. Unless you have had exceptioal trigger time with this type of pistol.

I carry my K9 twice as much as my XDm but when it comes to defensive classes I always use my XDm. Two reasons, mag capacity and the striker trigger. This weapon is far better suited (for me) than my Kaur.

I understand you wanting to use it because it's your main CC weapon of choice, I just think if you have a pistol more like the XDm that it would work to your advantage better.

+1 . . . We have a "backup gun" fun match monthly at the Pima Pistol Club. I have participated several times, using a PM40. Never needed my backup, also a PM40, but it was a good feeling knowing it was there.

This was $10 fun shoot that usually only required less than 150 rounds, depending on the stages. For something like you are planning the odds of needing your backup and the cost of the course would make a second pistol or two essential, in my opinion.

Buy the Uplula mag speed loader before you go. 1000 rounds in two days would be torture without it. I can load 4 mags faster and easier with it in about the same time it takes to load 1.5 mags without it (killing my thumb in the process).

I'd bring a backup - not saying the CM is sure to break - but you don't want to spoil the fun. And please do report back.

+1 even a couple hundred rounds six at a time gets old very quickly. Rounds 5 and 6 are always tough on my old hands.

sounds to me like an endurance test for both shooter and gun. I have no doubt my two PMJ9 cando it, but I have alot of reservations if ol jocko could do it..

Also this is the only gun I have. So there is no back up. The money I saved up to get a new gun is what I'm paying for class with. I feel it's better to be good at something then just have smothing that you have only shot at a range. I feel after this class I will be better aware of myself. This is what will help me with my next gun punches.
