  • Just dropped off the CM9

Just dropped off my CM9 w/ a local gunsmith. Getting the throat and feed ramp smoothed/polished, front dovetail cut and XS Big Dot sights installed, slide melt, armorers black cerakote on the slide, and he even mentioned he's going to rework my magazines a little bit to improve the feed angle.

Can't wait to pickup the completed gun in 2-3 weeks.

    Before

After - Ended up only taking a week!

        Yep, pictures please.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

What's he charging to cut the dovetail? I've been considering that option.

unless he is a hell of a machinst, I would send mysldie to someone lke xs sights. or Dawson. I think they both offer that service. There is no second chance for a fokk up as u well know.

I know this is a shock Jocko and the first time ever but I disagree. There's lot of machinist that could cut a simple dovetail. Any decent smith with a milling machine can cut it.

It's sort of like getting your appendix out, there's always risk involved but it's pretty common stuff these days, not like Dr Quinn medicine woman hacking on you with a field knife.

Depending on the sights, it may indeed have paid dividends to have the maker supply and install the sights but again it depends on the local smith.

I'll wait by the mail box for my horsehead, got a spot all picked out for it, mounting bracket already in place. Send me a paint this time if you can, kind of liven up the decor.

thats OK. I need corrected every once in awhile. Please try not to ake a habit out of it.

Postage just went up today to, so I am alittle more picky about who gets what.

A decent machine operator can do it - provided - he has the right cutter, which I'm sure the gunsmith has, and provided he takes the time to measure things, and provided he does not try to get it perfect on the first passes.

When I did dovetails, my idea was to cut 'em all tight, try fit, and go back for a light second pass or hand fitting the last bit.

I got charged $130 for the entire job and I provided the sights (were out of stock at XS but i happened to find a set in stock at midway). The invoice from the gunsmith wrote it up as Dovetail ($40), Melt ($40), Cerakote ($50). So I spent a little under $250 total.

Looks very nice. I would also be interested in who did the work.
