Front tab on follower breaking off
skydude426, you may have a new problem, but it may have worked itself out on the last 3 mags. There are others here that can probably help you determine that better than I can. I would take it to the range one more time (without failures) before I would bet my life on it.
Could you see where or what the slide was catching on?

yup
I sure did miss that part. thanks.Originally posted by LorenzoB View PostJocko, I think you better re-read his post before suggesting he bet his life on it.
His slide is locking back when there are still rounds in the mag.

LorenzoB,
No, I couldn't tell what was causing the slide to lock open with rounds still in the mag. I'll fire it next weekend and see if it does it again. I hope the problems I'm having with my weapon are the exception to normal. If not Kahr has some cm40 issues.

Make sure the screw holding the washer over the slide lock spring is tight, but NOT TOO TIGHT! Or, maybe the SL actuator needs a little fine tuning after you see if rounds are hitting the actuator.

My dad shot my PM40 and had the similar problem of the slide staying back even with rounds left in it. I then shot it and had no problems. What I was maybe thinking that happened was he accidently hit the slide stop when he shot it and it locked it back in place. I am not sure if this is what happened but it was my guess.

I fired my again today and had the slide lock back with rounds still in the mag several times. I have a personal defense class tomorrow and will be putting many rounds through it. I'll pay close attention to my thumb placement and determine if this could be the cause.

onehasto realizethat when that 40calgoes boom, thereis just one heh of an explosion and that gun is so light and smallthat it is very har dot control and things happen so fast that u just arentsure if u caused it or not. shootingit left handed will show if the thumb was the culprt.... I'm glad to see I'm not alone with this problem. I bought a new CM 40 a week ago friday. It functioned perfectly as far as feeding, shooting etc. It was at the 6th loading of the 5 round mag that I saw the follower was half gone. I put 250 rounds through the gun that day. 200 of standard pressure 155 and 165gr 40 and 50 rounds of corbon 135 gr. The mag still functioned perfectly. It was more of a problem loading it than anything else. The factory 6 rd mag I bought the day I bought the gun worked perfectly. And it did the majority of the work that day when I discovered the broken follower. I contacted Kahr and got the parts being shipped asap response. I'm going to see if it happens again and go from there.

I put 100 rounds through it today at the personal protection class. I'm just not convinced the slide locking open with rounds still in the mag is from my thumb hitting the slide stop. For one thing it never did that before I sent it in to Kahr and they reworked the slide to fix the problem of rounds hanging up on the slide and the followers breaking. I installed Trijicon night sights on it which I love even in the daylight. I can make nice groups with this gun and really want to get it working right. Any ideas?

In my experience, when the slide "locks" with rounds still in the magazine I have found that it is not actually locked but just stuck back. Try tapping the back of the slide with the heel of your hand to see if it will return to battery that way (in other words try to move it without messing with the slide stop). If it does return to battery by tapping the back of the slide something is hanging the slide up. In my case i'm relatively sure it was broken followers causing my problems. I have the gun at a smith to see if he can smooth the ramp some so it stops breaking the followers AND have additional followers on the way from Kahr. Unfortunately it sounds like someones issue above might not be that since they sent the gun to Khar for the same work and it was returned.
I **THINK** this might just be caused by a slight difficulty in stripping a new round and seating it in the chamber. With a broken follower the round does not sit exactly right to be stripped and seated properly but with out a broken follower I would look to the magazine lips or the ramp as a culprit (I am no gunsmith however).
I hope we can all get back to having a blast with our Kahr's soon.

My slide stop spring wasn't loose. So I had a gun smith look at it and he thought what I was suspecting. That the slide stop spring is worn or a little bent so it's not putting enough resistance on the slide stop. I emailed Jay at Kahr, explained the problem and he's sending out a new slide stop spring. I know that small powerful handguns can be touchy. I'm determined to get the bugs ironed out of this thing.

There must have been a communication mix up because Kahr sent me a slide spring, not a slide stop spring. I decided the hell with it and ordered a slide stop spring from the website. Now I'll wait to receive it again to see if I can get this thing working. As I've said before its an accurate little high powered gun that I love to shoot. I just hope the frustrations I'm having are the exception to the rule.
