  • New pm9 feels wierd.

I have put about 265 rds. Through it. I have noticed when slowly racking the slide their is an audible and felt click when the recoil spring (the stainless part) pops through the hole on the slide. Is this normal and will it clear up in due time?. It is unnoticable when racked quickly .also i noticed a small burr on top of barrel ,the square part on the left side where the extractor is. The corner was bent up slightly causing a burr. I filed it down and polished it up. Seems to be trivial. I read where others had this same issue and kahr assured them it was normal wear.
    Runs like a sewing machine,regardless.
    Love this' lil gun.

I wouldn't worry about it as long as the gun runs. The slow rack and guide rod issues are due to the dual/captive spring set up on those wee little guns, as you said you'll never notice if you handle it like you mean business. The corner of the barrel hood is normal wear, you shouldn't have any more of that popping up now that you prettied it up a bit. Again, if it works shoot it, shoot it more, then rinse and repeat.

everything right. Pay no attention to the felt click either. If you rack slowly ur gonna hear thintgs that under normal firing will not be there. That burr is very common to. My PM9 did that at the git go.I filed it down smoothed it up and it never came back. IMO that pointed endis just that a weak pointed area that gets banged with spent casing leaving the gun.. Once you get the burr otu fothe way it will cease. Not saying u might not have to re-address it one more time either but it is OK, IMO. The main thing is reliability. If theygun is doing well, then your good to go and it will get smoother with more rounds down range also.
. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

I JUST now called customer service and voiced my concerns. they assured me that the burring was quite common and basically just the gun ridding itself of surplus material.
And as far as the "guide rod" goes, they got my address and are gonna send me a new one to try. see if that eases my concerns .but now i simply believe that its like you guys said, and simply just new and settling in . like fine wine only gets better with age!.
oh well, i guess i will have a spare "guide rod" in that case.
          "Superb" customer service. AAA+++
          thanks guys

My gun did the same thing as soon as I got it preped and was still doing it after 250 rounds, so I took out the "burring" my self. I noticed the guide rod is not perfectly true and will catch the slide. Since the trimming all seems OK. My son picked up his PM9 today and his guide rod is not true, so IMO thats the way they are made. BTW I have not had one problem with my gun it runs 100%, but I have done some smoothing and polishing. Feeding is so smooooth I can't make it fail, hand slide release, or limp wristing. The lil Kahr will be my EDC taking my G27's place.

Not sure what you mean by "not true", but if it's that the base sits off center - that's normal.

update: i recieved the new spring /guide rod from kahr. it is the same size guide rod but the spring is longer. will absolutely not work. ..
i noticed when i put the original back in that the end of the spring was protruding out in front of the end of the guide rod ever so slightly causing the click i was talking about. when chambering a round the guide rod would have to jump in front of the spring causing the click . i adjusted the spring just so, making sure that it coils up perfectly around the guide rode hole on the slide and...

wow night and day. smoooth as warm butter.

I replaced my recoil spring on my PM9 after 1500 rounds. The new spring was longer but worked fine. Not suee if it was longer because it hadn't taken a set or what, but it was significantly longer. I've also has to be careful when reassembling the pistol to make certain the spring is set correctly

Nothing to be concerned with, just be cognizant.

New springs should be longer since they are built with a "set" in mind and will take the set under compression and perform as designed. Worry if your new spring is the same size or shorter than the old!

Concerning springs... read FAQs 6, 7, and 8 here at Wolff Gun Springs:

Too long a spring is not really a problem, worst case lop a coil or two off and your good to go (ONLY if obviously too long). They do come built for a set.

i read somewhere on this forum about someone getting a new guide rod and having terrible difficulty racking the slide. said couldnt even do it using table. it was taking chunks out of table. yea its that tight. i couldnt even get the slide pushed on enough to replace retainer pin.
oh well, when "well enough" is no longer "well" i will have a "new" guiderod and spring that i am sure will work with a lil' tweeking. it is obviosly me and not the new rod, i have been known to......

I had this same issue with my PM9.... I wasn't sure what was going on untill I really looked at what was happening.... It seems that the end of the guide rod was getting hung up on the end of the spring...so I took a pair a needle nose plyers and bent the last coil of the spring open just a little and now the problem is gone and no clicking and the slide racks just fine at any speed.

My break in period was about 500+ rounds and now I have gone over 1500 rounds with 0 malfunctions.
