. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

Sent my CW9 back to KAHR yesterday to get the mags to drop freely. Lots to talk about this on the forum some say their guns came back with the same prob… and some say the mags come out slicker then goose grease. I got my fingers crossed. While it may not be a big deal to some, and I agree with some of what I’ve read, “If you have to reload during a gun fight your probably somewhere you shouldn’t be in the first place. But I’m thinking of getting into I.D.P.A. I know I’m not going to be a threat for the cup. But I would like to do my best, and fast mag changes help. I hear IDPA is a good way to practice your gun handling skills.
O.K. I’ll shut-up now and go sit back down, just had to add my .02

Just a note about the mags dropping for ccw. I beleive someone said that they would prefer it not drop so if the mag button were accidentally depressed they wouldn't have a partially inserted mag or lose the mag. If you carry in such a way as the mag could fall free then I would concede this as a benefit. However if you pocket carry I would think that having the mag pop out noticeably would be better so you would know to fix it and avoid having a jam on your second shot. And as far as carrying a reload, I personally think that it's a good idea. I know that most self defense situations don't require a mag change and if you make it that far you're luck to be alive. However I think that it's always best to have options, thats why I concealed carry I don't ever want to shoot somebody but I would like to have the option of using lethal force if it ever became necissary. Another reason that I could see needing to change magazines that really isn't dependant on you're neighborhood is some nut opening up on people at a mall, park, restaurant or other place. Unfortunately it has recently become a more common occurence and I think that a situation like that you might be happy you have a reload if you aren't super close to the person and you find cover. I definitely agree that you shouldn't be heading any place that you think you would even need the gun let alone a reload, but you just never know.

        Just a thought

New PM9 DLC with XS Big Dot sights just finished the break-in and have a similar issue with the six round mag.

I have two six rounders and one seven round mag. One of the six round mags will not drop the other six rounder and seven rounder drop with no binding. Emailed Kahr and they had send me a new follower but no change.

The email response was some mags drop some do not. The "fix" is to get an RMA for their gunsmith to modify the gun. Hate to part with this after the break-in.

          Any suggestions?

200 round break-in. Zero FTF and only three failure to lock back on the same mag. Follower changed and either the break-in or follower fixed the failure to lock back. Now 100% on both. If I could just get this mag to drop free....

          Thanks in advance

I have similar issue. 7 round mag falls free, 6 round mag sticks. Called Kahr and they had me send in the 6 round mag for an exchange. Waiting for new mag...

Look at your mags on the back facing where it is welded at the seam. My six rounder would hang and had some excess weld in this area compared to my seven rounder which dropped fine.

I filed it off as well as removing a small amount of magazine rail in the grip and now the six drops fine too. I really think it was the weld material causing the hangup.

it is sad. you would hope & like to see american companies striving to keep customers happy and keeping them from buying more & more imported products. american manufacturers need to realize this is a global market and customer service goes a long way. especially when kahr pistols are premium firearms.

Thanks for the suggestions but on closer examination, I have one PM9 mag that is considerably wider that another six round or seven round magazine.

Emailing Kahr I got a cookie cutter reply they have to have the gun back for their gunsmith to work it to drop mags consistently. Kahr stated they have different mags in the same capacity that will not drop free. Seems to be a luck of the draw (pun intended).

Called and spoke to a real human and just told to return the mag with a note for a new mag replacement.

Very impressed with the gun, very unimpressed with the magazines. Seems to be a disconnect in the quality control process (base plate fit, different width, binding, welds not consistent, differing responses from customer service reps).

Is there a supplier that produces a better magazine for the PM9 than Kahr?

                  Thanks

Update on my previous post. Received new 6 round mag today. Same problem...it won't drop free. I called Kahr but they'd gone for the weekend. Will try again Monday.

Neither of my PM9 mags drop free and it's not a huge deal to me.

dude, look at the bottom of your grip with a mag inserted, the plastic rubs on the mag. you can take a dremel or file and remove a little material. bingo. it has nothing to do with the follower.
I had a friend with a trophy wife, but apparently it wasn't first place.

I would not use a dremel and probably not a file either. I would use some sandpaper on something like a popsicle stick or something to smooth things up. Also a few here have found issues with the mag release lever dragging and there's a thread here somewhere how to gently modify that mag release to make mags drop freely. There was no drag in the frame at all in those cases. I always think to myself when I remove tupperware I can never put it back. I doubt that a little slop would hurt anything either but I'm a firm believer in not messing with mother nature if it can be avoided.

I have been looking at buying a pm 9. So I went to a local shop that keeps them in stock. The one they had in the case would only eject the mag if I pushed on the mag release so hard that my thumb turn white on the end. I have a e9 that was used and had some small problems with it that was just form use over time I think. But I was just wondering if anyone has had this problem with the pm9? I like to do as much reserch as posible before I buy.

My experience with the PM9 and Kahr has been great. My PM9 has run flawlessly and when I sent my 6 round mag in because it would not fall free, Kahr replaced it free of charge with one that did (eventually). Read through the forum; there is a thread on how to prepare the PM9 before you fire one round through it. I did that and it really helped. Good luck!
