  • CM9-Pinky extension for mag?

New guy here. I'm having a hard time deciding between a CM9 and CW9. I had seen a pic of a MK9 with a pinky extension. Can I get that for the CM9 as well? My only gripe with the CM9 is that my pinky hangs down.

    Thanks
    Steve

Here is the MK9, which I think is an absolutly beautiful gun. Cant remember where I got the pic, defensivecarry.com or TFL.com, not sure.

Anyone use one of those extensions? Looks like a great idea but I don't want to affect the concealability of my CM.

Tried them on my PM40. Doesn't make enough of a difference for me to be worth the increased size or the possibility of introducing a feeding issue by moving the mag with finger pressure. Back to standard (metal) base plates. YMMV
It would be so nice if something made sense for a change.

I use pinky extensions on my NAA, LCP, and have the factory flip downs on my .40 Beretta. After my first shooting with and without on my CM9 (currently shoot one handed) I found the recoil very manageable, grip was more than sufficient and they were unneeded, and it really does make them that much more difficult to conceal.
As I posted elsewhere, I reworked my Pearce extensions to a flat profile.

I put the CW9 plastic baseplate on my CM9 magazines after rounding off the front lip. This gives just enough extension to allow a pinky rest. I did this on my PM40 as well and the picture below is of the PM40.

Note that you have to use the CW9 plastic retainer as well as the metal one with the dimple in it isn't tight enough to prevent the plastic base plate from sliding off.

I gota go along with TuCsonMTB in that the CM9 doesn't have enough recoil to make it necessary.
                  However:
I may do the "mightymouse mod" just cuz it looks cool. ..

Agreed here as well. But I want my CM9 to feel and grip same as my PM40 which does have a lot of recoil so the plastic base plate is a good compromise for me on both guns--not too long to restrict in concealed carry, but long enough to just barely hang the pinky on it.

That makes sense. If I had a PM40 I'd want my pinky on it too. And, I'd want my CM9 to feel the same in my hand..

I also don't care for the Pearce extensions for carry. As you can see below the extension protrudes pretty far from the mag well.

Here you can see how the extension extends even beyond my pocket holster.

One thing I don't like is that the extensions slip on and off too easily, they do not click in place. Here you can see how the button does not even hold the extension in place. I've actually accidentally popped the extension off.

Below is how I carry. My spare mag in weak side pocket does have the extension in the event I need a reload. This also allows me to use the extended version at the range.

In the end I like them but definitely would not use them for carry. Hope this helps!

Rather than the Peerce, I prefer the lower profile stock Kahr black plastic base footplates. You can order them from Kahr. They also come on some of the 9mm 7 round mags.

All you have to do is sand a small amount off the top, maybe 1/32 or so for clearance to get the mag to lock in properly. I like the front lip, but if you don't you can sand that off too. Use the provided plastic floorplate, not the stainless one. Mine locks into place securely with just the plastic one.

FWIW the thin Kahr SS floorplate is not sufficient to lock in place the after market Pearce or the Plastic Kahr footplate.

Check Kahr Shop for new 7 round CM9 mag.(not pictured) but exactaly the same style as the 7 round 45 cal extended grip. This gives you a full third finger grip.

I use the Pearce extensions on both of my 6rd mags for my CM9. Ordered them when I ordered the gun.

Haven't had any trouble with them, but only have 268 rds through my CM9 so far.

Also, I am new to concealed carry having only done so for a little over a week now, but I don't seem to have any problems with them while carrying in a Silent Thunder at about 1 - 1:30.

                              YMMV
