  • Sell me on a CM9 (or not)

I'm thinking about picking up a CM9 for carry- sell me on it. I'm also looking at the Beretta Nano and the Sig P290.

Current "Summer gun" - S&W 442 "Pro" (Moonclips! :-D) in a Mika Pocket Holster

Current "Winter gun" - Taurus 740slim in a MTAC

The CM9 would fall between the two on both power and size...

I shoot the 442 well, but reloads are slow as molasses and a pain to carry.

The 740 is a bit tougher to shoot well, but I like having a more powerful round in the winter (People bundle up in WI!)

My day job is not carry friendly, so discretion is needed; that's why I'm debating not carrying the 740 this winter and getting something smaller.

Sell me on a CM9 or another pocket 9...

100% reliability without hammer bite, safe, quick and very accurate. Reduced recoil due to design, yet will shoot +P ammo without hesitation. Add to that a reasonable price and a free mag offer with great customer service. Whats to not like about that?

I have the PM9 but would not hesitate to get the CM9. My PM9 is also a "tweener". P3AT - PM9 - Glock 26. The PM9 has replaced ~80% of my .380 pocket carry and a bit of my G26 AIWB carry.

Once broken in your CM9 should be able to handle most 9mm ammo so you can go soft or hot or just about anything in between.

CM9 (from what I've read) is a great handgun and very similar to the PM9, but doesn't have the bells and whistles. I've read too many reports of the sights breaking off the CM9 for it to be a carry gun I'd want in my pocket.

Other than that, it's hard to beat with the free magazine promo going on.

I really like my cm9. except for the magazine drop thing, which is getting better, it has been 100% reliable since I have had it. also lots of fun to shoot, and small enough to conceal well. whats not to like? as for the magazine thing, I just cannot get around to squeezing a $30.+ magazine. I also have a pm45 which I like alot too.

i've owned all of them except the 40 taurus... the trigger on the sig is awful... kel tec has a better trigger imo, the nano is non existant so i'd say get a cm9.
Focus on your front sight..... The rest should be blurry!

I'm kind of wishing I'd spent the extra $100 and bought the CM9 instead of the Diamondback DB9. I'm sure the trigger would be much smoother, but the ported barrel and the price on the DB9 kind of won me over.

Go for the CM9. It has the best trigger in its class and smaller size. I have not compared it to the Nano yet. Once you get one, it is so easy to carry that it will become your only carry gun. Just beware of the break in period, some have issues and some do not. Mine took around 400 rounds before it broke in. Now I can shoot any brand ammo I want.

I wouldn't buy any of the three you mentioned. Without shooting them first.
                  Best way to decide IMO

If the plastic front sight is an issue you can get a steel trijicon one to replace it from kahr for $30 which is not bad at all. It's what I did. Currently at 225 rounds with zero issues. Only other small 9 I've owned was the lc9 and I can say the cm9 has a LOT less felt recoil.

I agree with Stumprat. Let the CM9 (or some other small frame auto) sell itself to you. Line up and shoot a few small 9mm and you decide which one sells itself. It was fairly easy for me. All I had to do was shoot it with the KelTec & Diamondback 9mm offerings and it was no contest. That's why I own a CM9.

I owned a CM9 I had issues with an after market night sight Kahr installed breaking off twice. I believe the PM9 has better sights. I am going to give the Nano a try. It is little bigger. I just hope I can pocket carry the Nano. If you are not in a hurry wait and see what the average Joe has to say about the Nano. Russ

I think the nano will be ok. I'm curious as to what people say about it but I'm wanting one just not sold on it yet. my dealer can't get em yet but he is taking orders and may be getting one for my wife to carry.

my cm9 has been 100% reliable for more than 500 rounds (I've lost count.) get one and you'll love it.
The only thing better than having all the guns and ammo you'd ever need would be being able to shoot it all off the back porch.

My first Kahr was a PM40, which is surprisingly accurate but a lot of recoil, and mine is problem free. I really liked the trigger and the size. I bought a CM9 when they came out and it is my carry gun. I put night sights on it and worked over the magazines some and it has been 100%. Excellent combination of caliber, size, accuracy, and function in my opinion. Rest of my guns are larger SIGs. I considered a P290 but they had some problems early on and there is no better small gun trigger than the Kahr.
