  • New guy here

I just bought my first pistol which just so happens to be a Kahr TP9. It is a used gun that looks brand new. The cost was $449 which I think is pretty good. The funny thing is that the grip seems smaller than the TP9 grip listed on the Kahr website. Does anyone know why that might be?

I'm in good old New York state so I actually have to wait a few months before I can even take it home . I should have snapped a picture before leaving the shop to show you guys.

Anyways, just wanted to say hi and get that one question answered. Thanks!

first of all welcome to the forum, u are a very fortunate poster. as ur first reply was from the grand poo-bah himself. He normally doesn't address newbies until they become oldies. I have over 400 posts here and he has never ever addressed me. Now he has dressed me down with some PM's but that is another point.

Ur tp9 i9s probably just like in the photo, photos can be misinterpreted, but also quite possably your tp9 has been coverted. Chopped down to a shorter grip and there for a shorter magazine, which personally if that is true, u got a real dandy TP9..

Now also a welcome from ol jocko goes a long way on this forum, just ask the other a-holes and they will confirm that When jocko speaks, absolutley positively NO ONE LISTENS.
. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

Yeah tell me about it. In my county I have to buy the pistol before I can even submit the paperwork for my permit. How much sense does that make? The local judge can then take up to 6 months to issue the permit.

Interesting. I just found this link --> http://unreadbits.blogspot.com/2006/...p9-review.html
Look at the Update at the bottom. He talks about how the grip length has been increased by .5 within the past few years or so. It looks like I may have gotten a TP9 with the P9 sized grip but with of course the longer slide.

Three words pal. Bekins Moving & Storage. (Well technically maybe 4 words since the & would probably be considered a word)

If I'm not mistaken getting the permit is not a for sure thing anyhow is it. What if they decline. Do you still get to keep the gun, just not carry it, load it, or hold it with ill intent.

I generally don't offer this to folks from New York city, home of the fake picante sauce but we got room for a few more folks here in Washington, course if we got rid of all the cry baby left leaners we'd have a lot more room. It's a far piece but come on out. Buy and pickup your gun same day, permit in 3 to 7 days depending on your location. No association to a particular gun so the permit is good for anything that spits lead.

We'll leave the light on for ya.

Gotta go dress down Jocko some more on the PM. A burr under my saddle that one. 400 measly post and he thinks he owns the joint. Truth is in the early days we all started out with 100,000 post and counted backwards. So you can see he's down to about 400. I'm down to 10 or 11,000. I'm not sure what happens when you hit zero but I'm sure it's a life changing experience.

Holy crap! I had to wait a whole five minutes for my background check to clear. Took me longer to fill out the form. Seriously, you people in New York have to start voting out those socialist democrat politicians, or start calling your state the People's Republic of New York.

Ahh so typical from people not from the North East. You do know that New York is more than just one big city, right? I live way up in the country about 4 hours from New York city. Actually, residents of New York City aren't even allowed to own a hand gun in the city. That's really not right since it's a high crime area and one would be more likely to need it there. Mayor Bloomberg is very anti gun.

But you are right on the fact that they could deny me completely. The judge is either required to give me a permit with 6 months OR tell me why I can't have one, however they would need a good reason for that (like an arrest or drug problem) of which I have none.

Last year my buddy applied for his pistol permit and it took 4.5 months to get it. That was with the old judge and I'm told the new judge is more conservative. Crossing my fingers!

WTF??? A FEW MONTHS??? I thought it was just NYC that was crazy, didn't know it affected the whole state. My sympathies my friend, and welcome to the forum.
The local "big city" (about the size of Albany) issued a decree we had to wait 7 days before taking a gun home. We created such an uproar that the Mayor and his cronies were ousted in the next election and order was restored. In the meantime, gun shops outside of the city limits and in neighboring counties was booming. Thankfully the bigger gun shows took place out in the county, where the 7 day waiting period wasn't required. Cars kill many more people than guns do, do you have to wait months to get a car too? Naw, cause they don't have a mind of their own and jump out of the safe and start killing people. In the immortal words of John Denver "Thank God Im a Country Boy" and live in "flyover country".

I think you nailed it. I think New York, I think New York city and don't picture it as a state. Hard to put country side and New York in the same sentence. Furthest east I ever been was when I crossed the river into Illinois from Hannibal for catfish dinner long long ago.

I'd like to see some of the historic sites on your side of the country but probably won't ever happen. Love to visit some of the old battlefields and memorials and see the White House in person when Obummer ain't around that is. Who needs temptations ya know?

We'll cross our fingers for you and still maintain that there's better places to live free, maybe no place perfect but I ain't waiting several months for a new gun. Just ain't gonna happen. Time is precious and the clock is ticking.

Haven't been there in 25 or 30 years but I liked it a lot back then. Wouldn't mind having a few acres someplace in that area. I'm actually gonna start looking around. I got lots of relatives in MO that would help check things out. I know John and Justin would love to have me as a neighbor, but I want a little space so I can shoot off my back porch. Not shoot the porch off the house but sit on the porch and shoot at stuff not on the porch if you follow the flow of my stream.

It's ok, you aren't the first and you won't be the last . I live near Saratoga Springs and we have a pretty cool battlefield area from the Revolutionary War. They called the Battle of Saratoga one of the turning points of the war. Also about 1 hour north we have Fort William Henry which is on Lake George in the Adirondack park. Fort William Henry was the site of some battles during the French and Indian war and I just so happen to be getting married inside the fort this summer!

We've toyed with moving but it's hard because we are both family orientated people and all our family lives in this area.

You wouldn't think it, but Vermont is actually very pro 2nd amendment. You can walk into a gun shop at age 18 and buy a pistol and walk out carrying it. No permits required. Vermont is only an hour from me so maybe we will move there some day.
