Shows my ignorance, I thought Saratoga was down on the Gulf. That fort and them battle fields are just the things I'd love to wander through and soak up the history. Send me a wedding invite and you never know I just might show up. Let me know if your registered, I'd of course want to bring a gift. Would a couple cases of ammo be appropriate? Maybe pictures of the bride first might help.
Tinman, thanks for the gracious offer. If I ever get back that way you'll be my #1 tour guide for sure.
I can't grasp everyone wanting to travel all over the world when we have so many incredible things to see right here.

              Hey guys,

Just visited the gun shop with a friend so we could fondle my Kahr. It's been over a month since I posted this thread and I'm still waiting on that permit and probably have another 4 months to go.

Anyway, I ask the guy to see my TP9 with the factory shortened grip. He went in the back room to get it and I see a used K9 right in front of me. The price was $599 so $150 more than the TP9 (which was also used). After I held that beautiful stainless K9 I just had to have it. I was really surprised to feel that the weight difference really wasn't that much.

The guys at the shop let me switch my purchase to the K9 and I don't even have to pay the $150 difference until I pick up the pistol . I see these going between $500-$650 on GB.c so $600 seems like a good deal to me. The K9 looks great, feels great, and I love it. So happy that I switched.

Heh "Q" me in here, why do u have to wait 4 months to get this gun, can u not buy it and take it home without a permit. where do u live???
. My PM9 has over 34,000+ rounds through it, and runs much better than an illegal trying to get across our border

In new york, you need a permit to own a handgun period. Not to carry, to purchase. You need to gather references in your area of residence, they have to sign for you, and you wait, and wait, and wait. Carrying is yet another permit. You pretty much need a valid reason, business owner etc.. to get that. I suppose it may depend on you area of jurisdiction. I lived in Buffalo, so forget it.
Otherwise, without a "carry permit" you aren't even supposed to have the thing in your car unless you are on your way to a range. That's the whole state. In most of new york city, you can't legally own a handgun period. Exceptions are again made for business owners, stuff like that, but just wanting a gun doesn't constitute "need" for one there. They determine who "needs" one. That works out great because then only criminals have them. Leaving that state was the best thing I ever did.

Here in New Mexico, we are an open carry state, everyone and their brother can carry open, anywhere but federal buildings and bars basically. You can carry legally in your car here as it is considered and extension of one's home. You need a permit to carry concealed only and it's relatively painless to get.

They are about the same in terms of ridiculous laws, especially in regards to guns, yes.

Holy mother of... Here in GA it's "up to 45 days" to get you CCL! But to buy a gun -- you just walk into the store, fill out a form and the guy makes a background check right there on the phone, and in about 20 minutes you walk out with a brand new awesome little Kahr. :-) (and if you already have a CCL, then things move along with even less trouble/faster.) I don't think I'm ever gonna move.

Best of luck man, hope you get it soon!

Well said lowroad. We have a tough time here in NY state. Even worse, each county can make their own rules regarding how they give permits. The county judge is the one single person that can deny you your pistol permit for any reason. One guy has that power!

In my county we just elected a new judge a few months ago (another democrat of course). I've talked to a few police officers that I know and nobody has a beat on how this new Judge works things yet. Last year, with the old judge, my friend had to wait 5.5 months for his permit and legally they have 6 months to tell you yes or no. I'm told the old judge would just let the permit application sit on his desk until the last minute before he had to say yes or no.

2 of my 4 references include a sheriff and an Iraq vet so hopefully that will count towards something. Even with that I can only apply for "Possess on premises, hunting and target only" which means that technically I can only keep my gun on my own property unless I am traveling to and from the range or take it hunting. I spoke with my sheriff friend and he says that in reality the police officers don't bother you much even if you carry your pistol without a CCW. A lot of folks in this state just carry their pistols even without a CCW and I'm told that if you get caught it's just an administrative fine, not a criminal offense. Not recommending this to anyone, it's just what I've heard.

Man, 6 months is ridiculous just to purchase a gun. There no "real" waiting to purchase firearms where I live. Just the time it takes to do the background check over the phone. For conceal carry, it isn't much different either. It literally took me 15 minutes to get my CC permit from the Sheriffs Dept. That's parking, walking in, filling out form, pay $20, background check, photo, print ID card, walk out, get in my car, and check the time...15 minutes. Now granted, maybe it was a slow day, but still. Of course I live in Alabama so there's that.

Ugh that makes me so bummed out to live in New York. I'd love to move to a different state (Vermont is one of the most gun friendly states and right next door) but all mine and my wife's family lives here and we like being close by. Still pushing her move to Vermont. It's only 45 minutes away. Vermont lets anyone buy a pistol on the spot and carry it out the door. No CCW required in vermont.

Yep, I can just walk into sportsman's warehouse or wherever now and literally walk out with a handgun after showing my driver's license and a 5 minute form and brady bunch phone call. AND I HAVE!
